A quick question or two,if anyone can help!

Can anyone recommend any of the Lush shampoo bars for fine flyaway but normal hair?
Also do they do hair dyes? Are they bars? And do they cover first greys?

TIA!

I have a Lush shampoo bar and the solid conditioner, however I can't recommend the shampoo and even less the conditioner. I got horrible dandruffs after using it, my hair never felt clean etc. but i know lots of people who think it's great.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/04/2012 12:18

They do henna blocks for colour, they turn my few greys coppery gold, I have dark brown hair. I don't have clusters of grey yet, just the odd one so it's fine. The colours range ftom bright red to black.

GreenMamba · 22/04/2012 16:00

Thanks for the replies!

WhoKnows also have dark brown hair, and I love the idea of my few greys being coppery gold.
Do you use the marron or the rouge henna,to get that effect?

have used everything Lush except the dyes. How messy / hard to apply?

CharmedLife · 22/04/2012 16:27

I use the Ultimate Shine shampoo bar from Lush and it is perfect for me and I am also pleased to be avoiding plastic bottles.

I don'tlike any of the lush hair products, I agree with lol I find em messy.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/04/2012 16:56

I use either the marron or brun, usually a mixture of the two. Most recently I did all marron and it is a bit too coppery for my skin tone, also I wear a lot of pink and I think browner suits me better. Taken by itself the colour looks fabulous, just not with my skin/wardrobe.

I've posted on other threads how to use it will find one and link rather than type it all out again

I use the Trichomania shampoo bar, I love it! ive used I think the shine? bar too, that was nice too but I find the Trichomania is better for my hair.

I also have the Jungle conditioner bar which is a bit awkward to use, I put it in a sinkful of warm water while im washing my hair to soften the bar and then rub it over my hair. I have very thick, curly dry hair and it makes it lovely and soft. it has patchouli in it which im not overly fond of but its tolerable.

Not tried the dyes as I thought they were henna/all dark which isnt for me.

Lush is deffo a Marmite product.

notactuallyme · 22/04/2012 17:16

i use the henna rouge one - really bloody messy and a pita but my hair is in really nice condition and stays very red. Plus i am about 60% grey...you have to put it in boiled water and kind of mash or stir oit to a paste. I get bored halfway through and shove loads of clumpy bits on my head. Then you have to sit with green mud on your hair for ages.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/04/2012 17:52

There are lots of old threads about the henna, I've just done a quick search.

My tips are

Put the blocks of it in a pyrex dish, leave it to sttep in boiling water for half an hour and break it up with a fork, add more boiling water as needed. I then zap mine in the microwave to make it really hot but they say not to. I used to grate it up, but leaving it to steep is easier. I break sections off by putting the block (in a plastic bag) on the back door step overhanging the edge and press down with my foot on the overhanging bit.

Put vaseline liberally around your ears and hairline, clip up the top parts of your hair and do the underneath layers first.

Clear everything out of the way in the bathroom, it is very messy.

Get a shower cap and towelling turban from a pound shop to contain it all, much easier than clingflim/towels.

Wash it all out in the shower (takes about 10 mins) before shampooing twice to get rid of all grittiness.

they sound gopping
use some chemicals fgs

Meglet · 22/04/2012 18:01

The Henna is messy. It looks fab on some people though. I never bothered with it though.

I worked there for years so got to try all the products. If you ask nicely they'll give you some samples.

GreenMamba · 22/04/2012 19:03

Thanks for all the advice!

I'm really excited about trying it now Smile

WhoKnows I actually came across a shower cap from a hotel today in a sort out,and kept it in case it came in handy - must have been a sign!

I think I'll try marron.I used to dye my hair bright pink back in the day so I reckon I'm up for it! Grin

The henna is messy, gritty/greasy and smells odd. Look past those things and the bars work really well, I used to use the marron one and it was nice. I think I used half or a third of a whole bar for my thick shoulder length hair, it depends on your hair type and length how much to use. Some people leave it on all day for a stronger effect, I would try for at least 1-4 hours with clingfilm on my head (heat for a redder brown colour). Others add different things/scents to the mix, have a google.

However, be aware of a few things:

Henna coats the hair rather than lifting the cuticle to deposit colour there. As a result, eventually after 6-12 months of full head applications, your ends will have a lot more colour on than the roots and be a totally different shade/condition. It's advisable to try and apply future henna only to the roots and just do a whole-hair colour a couple of times a year.

Some hair doesn't get on with henna, some loves it. Mine didn't like it, it became brittle and straw like :( I liked the colour but henna almost destroyed my hair, I was really disappointed (this was all with the Lush stuff). You won't know which you are until you try it.

And last but not least, following on from the above, you can't get rid of the colour once it's there. You can try chemicals dyes over it but most chemical dyes advise against this on the packet. The only way to completely remove the henna from your hair once it's on there is to grow and or cut it out.

That said, if it works you for, brilliant! Lush henna is fairly good quality, though I've heard good things about the body art quality henna available from Hennaboy too. Never use cheap poor quality henna powder from health stores etc, it's mixed with other things which can turn your hair green if you ever use chemical dyes over the top! Shock Only ever use pure top quality henna. The Lush stuff is mixed with cooca butter and coffee or herbs, but these are alright. I dyed over Lush henna no problem.

Good luck :)

I like the henna - makes hair really shiny. Shampoo bars on the other hand - far far far too much SLS in it but doesn't seem to clean hair at all so hair is lanky and greasy with loads of dandruff (boak). Not nice at all.

GreenMamba · 22/04/2012 21:33

Brilliant help - thanks HepHep.

No worries, Green :)

boobellina · 23/04/2012 09:41

Haven't used the henna for ages but loved what it did to my hair and quite liked feeling like a wicked witch stirring the bubbling pot of henna. The downside was washing it out of thick shoulder length hair when it had set like cement - not fun.

I've never got on with the shampoo bars even when my hair was much shorter, but I love the liquid shampoos and conditioners that lush does, so if you don't like the bars don't be put of the shampoos as I think that they are far better than anything else I have tried.
