Terrible Dark Circles Under Eyes -any suggestions?

Can anyone help?

I need a good product that will cover these huge circles i've suddenly acquired. Seems to be a combination of dark colour due to lack of sleep and face sort of caving in? Maybe PG hormonal changes too?

I have bought a Touche Eclait and it doesn't work at all- makes them less black in colour but just as noticeable- weird beige circles under eyes instead.

I also bought a max factor one that seems a thicker version of the touche eclait in a slightly worse colour!

(more sleep not really an option, i know this would help but i've currently lost the knack. Lost my baby at 20 weeks in the PG so not v good emotionally at the moment, but don't want to take pills etc, am OK with it taking time for me to feel a better, would just prefer not to look like i feel in front of strangers, if that makes sense.)

Would appreciate suggestions as I haven't got much cash and can't keep buying rubbish ones & i feel a bit too fragile for the makeup counter ladies.

I have quite bad dark circles and have tried quite a few concealers to fix it. The ones that work the best for me are Benefit Erase Paste and Laura Mercier Secret Camoflague. They're both about £18-20 I think. Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer also seems decent (only just tried that this week as I got a freebie from House of Fraser). Bobbi Brown corrector and concealers also v effective and their makeup counter ladies are usually friendly but not too in your face.

Really sorry about your baby.

You need Cyb, she is the under eye maestro.

So sorry to hear about your baby. Take care of you.

WhyAlwaysBoris · 19/04/2012 12:51

Thanks for the replies,

are the benefit and laura mercier ones just one colour option?
Is it just a matter of trying different brands untill i find one that is in the right shade?
(makeup ignoramus but why don't they do them in shades like foundation?)

Might wait till i've got my courage up a bit and try the bobbi brown counter if they are less scary....

Is Cyb a MN'r ?? x

So sorry to hear about your loss.

If you have been pregnant recently it is probably worth taking an iron supplement. I took Spatone because I was anemic whilst I was pregnant, but it made such a difference to my dark circles I just kept on taking it anyway.

Benefit erase paste and bobbi brown corrector are also good, they are both a bit of a lurid peach colour which counters the purple then you can cover with foundation to bring it back to your natural skin tone.

Good luck

Hi Suburbanstyle, that is really useful info, thanks. Didn't realise iron made a difference to this- i had a haemorrage after delivery and lost a lot of blood during surgery, so maybe that has contributed.

I did have iron supplements from doc but they ran out and couldn't face going back for more. I have been taking Spatone i got off Amazon, but only one sachet a day, i might up it to two a day to see if that helps as i don't really feel i've caught back up, (still get giddy if i stand up fast).

Do you take one a day and do you take it in orange juice or just on its own??

Very sorry for your loss x

The best thing I have ever used and will always recommend (bearing in mind I'm as pale as a ghost and have almost blue under eye circles so there is a lot to cover) is Bobbi Brown Corrector.

It really works and can be used under foundation or concealer.

Btw they do them in different shades (most simple explanation here) because the point is make the area look the same as the rest of your skin. My skin is not the same colour as yours or as for example my black friends. We couldn't all use the shade for that simple reason.

suburbanstyle · 19/04/2012 13:17

I take one a day, two if I am feeling really sluggish. Yes normally drink in half a glass of orange juice because vit C is meant to help you absorb it/masks the awful taste. Yesterday I ran out and had to take with a berrocca Blush.

Another thumbs up for the Bobbi Brown Corrector and Concealer (and I have tried a lot !!)

Very sorry for your loss. Take care. x

Yip, BB is the best. I also have a tip I got here many moons ago. Get some of that powdered gelatine stuff. Sprinkle half a teaspoons in a tablespoon of boil water and mix to dissolve. Dab on under eyes with cotton wool, leave about half an hour then wash off. Do this every day for a week - you will seem an improvement, it's not a miracle cure but it does improve things.
The MN'er who posted this says she used to do it in the beauty salon she worked in and charge the hapless punters many quids for it....

sorry to hear what's happened - lots of love and luck xx

Schlumberger · 19/04/2012 13:33

Yep, Bobbi Brown Corrector. I'm blonde and pale skinned - my under and inner eye circles are literally blue. I use the corrector in the Bisque colour, it does make a big difference.

Am so sorry about your baby OP.

Sonotkylie · 19/04/2012 13:34

Sorry to hear about the baby. be kind to yourself. I agree with more iron and recommend dried apricots and other dried fruits, which (apparently) have high iron content). Worked for DS. Also dark chocolate. OK and pills too but these are more fun. Maybe go wild and have dried apricot and dark chocolate together. Then break out the concealer

WaitingForMe · 19/04/2012 13:36

I use Bobbi Brown and booked a perfect base session with them to learn how to apply it.

Sleep is obviously best and my eyes are worse when I'm anaemic but another quick fix is cooling the area either with a gel pack, cold teabags (I've no idea why this works but it does) or good old cucumber slices.

I also found using Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream improved the skin and made it less puffy.

WhyAlwaysBoris · 19/04/2012 13:41

thank you for all the lovely replies, it is appreciated x

B Brown is clearly the winner, might ask my friend if she'll come with me at the weekend and i'll go & get some

I can muck about with powdered gelatine this afternoon as have some in the house and i love stuff like that
