Tearing my hair out, Scottish wedding guest dress help needed

So Ive bought this Boden dress for a forthcoming wedding in a Scottish castle. I know Boden isnt loved on MN at the moment but its really nice, and I thought the thistles theme was apt.

However I am having trouble accesorising it, at first I thought it would be easy to match the cerise colour and get cerise hat, shoes and bag and possibly a jacket or pashmina, the trouble is in finding the same shade of cerise, and now im not even sure it looks right with all this matching cerise ( even if i was able to find it all to match ) I love hats and really wanted a big, showy bright hat too.

Is this old fashioned, should I be going nude ? Help ..........or it gets replaced by something simple and boring.

Whatever you do, don't go nude, it gets chilly in Scotland of an evening Grin

MmeLindor. · 18/04/2012 22:49

I would not have thought of cerise, tbh. Unless the colours are very different in RL.

Silvery grey might work well. Not too matchy-matchy though.

MsHighwater · 18/04/2012 22:59

Even in a castle, a hat might not be essential. I've not seen too many hats in evidence at weddings I've seen recently in Scotland. Something on the head, yes, but not necessarily a hat. I'd echo the silver grey idea or else possibly the blue-y greeny colour in the pink/red colour-way.

zippy539 · 18/04/2012 23:08

I'd go for picking up the grey or the blue - maybe with a jacket for the day and a pashmina big old woolly jumper for the evening.

ilovetoski · 18/04/2012 23:17

Hadnt even thought of silvery grey so will give this a go, thank you,
The 3 flower colours are a definate cerise, a salmony reddy colour and a more purply colour. All quite hard to get an exact match too.

I really would not worry about a hat, the older generation may wear one but it is certainly not the norm here.

SingingSands · 18/04/2012 23:26

Which castle is it? Just being nosy! I got married in a castle in Scotland.

Anyhoo, back to the dress, I think silvery grey like the previous poster suggested, would be good. And thermals.

MmeLindor. · 18/04/2012 23:26

I always wear a hat.

It depends on the wedding, I guess. I wear one because I like hats.

Wellies and a big wooly jumper probably more use than a pashmina and strappy sandals, tbh.

FoofFighterYNWAJFT96 · 18/04/2012 23:30

From what I have seen of Scottish weddings (and have been to loads living here) the women really really dress up (think ladies day at the races style) you definitely need a fascinator and strappy sandals and nice jewellery. Pashmina would be more "acceptable" than a jacket (no no!)

ilovetoski · 19/04/2012 23:37

Singing Sands the wedding is at www.drumtochtycastle.com
I definatley would like a hat or at least a Fascinator, I love an excuse to wear a hat !
Im hoping it wont be too cold in July !

Foof Fighter - Why would a jacket be a no no ?

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding silvery grey. Probably your best bet. Also the dress is very striking in it's own right. If the hat is big enough Grin it won't need to be bright to stand out!
July can go either way in those parts, if it's nice - temperature probably 20-23 degrees. Only you will know if that is jacket, pashmina or cute cardigan weather for you. I see gravel on their website... and if a ceilidh is planned that might influence you shoe choice (or just kick them off!)
That's my penny's worth. Hope you have a fab time.
