Vests with built-in bras?

oxcat1 · 18/04/2012 14:29

I've recently lost rather too much weight (health problems) and now have no boobs to speak off - chest size between 30/32 and boobs a/b. I have also had lung surgery so prefer nothing too tight around my chest as frequently get stabbing post-surgical pains.

Can anyone recommend any good vests with built-in bras? I've had a few in the past that have just made everything look a bit sausage-shaped, but then I was a bit larger then, so maybe that wouldn't be a problem now? I just want something that is going to give me a bit of support and prevent me feeling naked, but that can also be worn as tops when (if?) the weather actually warms up at all.

Any good recommendations? Thanks.

here

or here

they actually have cups build in not just the extra "shelf" bit

MissFoodie · 18/04/2012 17:13

I saw some in Uniqlo which look v comfy

oxcat1 · 18/04/2012 17:43

Thanks - I'll look into the M&S ones, and I have actually ordered a Uniqlo one, so will see what that is like. Cups would at least avoid the 'smuggling peanuts' risk that comes with going bra-less!

Thanks again

I've had the Bravissimo ones which have cups and a bra band but they may be a bit tight for you, knowing how they like to fit you in there.

CMOTDibbler · 18/04/2012 17:55

The M&S ones are really good - I started wearing them after my arm injury as they were so easy to get on, and the resulting shape isn't bad at all

sobenobu · 18/04/2012 18:03

Uniqlo ones are great, they look like I'm wearing a normal bra i.e. no sausage shelf.
Only prob is that the pale pink/white ones are a little see through and you can see the pads.

Bunbaker · 18/04/2012 18:19

I have had a look at the Uniqlo website and can't find these vests - we have no Uniqlo store here.

The M & S ones look promising though.

sobenobu · 18/04/2012 18:38

I hate the Uniqlo website with a passion!

It's in the underwear section and called women's airism bra camisole.

Bunbaker · 18/04/2012 19:13

Great thanks.

oxcat1 · 20/04/2012 22:27

My Uniqlo airism vest arrived and I'm a little on the fence. The fabric feels very artificial and is quite shiny, but it is exceptionally comfortable. The cups are much, much bigger than my boobs Blush and I haven't yet decided whether that looks odd! I suppose my basic point is it looks a little more 'underwear-like' than I'd anticipated and would feel the need to wear something else on top. Really comfy though.

Thanks for all the ideas.

I have an m and s one that I wear to bed as pg and have very sore boobs! Love it though and thinking of getting some more to wear during the day.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 20/04/2012 22:32

There were some in Lidl the other day!Blush looked quite good actually.

Loveleopardprint · 21/04/2012 08:15

Primark do some great crop top bras, one white and one black, for four pounds. My dd wears them all the time as they are so comfortable and they wash really well. I know they are not a vest top but thought might help if you want to progress onto other tops later. Hope you are feeling better.

Bunbaker · 21/04/2012 08:29

I'm off to M & S today. I will report back later.

oxcat1 · 21/04/2012 11:18

Thanks for that.

Leopard: will certainly have a look when next in Primark (are they in the adult clothes?), and Baker: please let me know how you get on at M&S.

Thanks!

I saw one of these today in thick stretchy navy cotton Lycra mix by Great Plains.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be on their website.

Loveleopardprint · 21/04/2012 21:42

Yes they are in adult clothes, with the more functional looking underwear!!!

oxcat1 · 21/04/2012 21:50

Thanks Leopard - I'll have a look tomorrow.

Hoping to hear how Bunbaker got on.

Sadly no Great Plains or Lidl anywhere near me, so am mainly confined to internet shopping.

The M & S ones are for B - D cups, so no good for me as I am only an A cup Sad. I looked at them but didn't bother trying one on.

oxcat1 · 22/04/2012 09:50

Thanks for reporting back, Bun. That was one of my problems with the Uniqlo vests: too much 'growing room' within the cups.

The search continues.....

Have you thought about looking on some of the websites for women's sports gear eg. running/cycling etc. such as www.girlsruntoo.co.uk or www.gearforgirls.co.uk . If you look under 'tops' at the vests available a lot of them will come with built in support and there are lots of different styles/colours on offer. I am not sure if these websites will be what you are looking for, some of their gear is expensive but often it is great quality and they often have sales :)

LolaAnn · 22/04/2012 10:43

primark have some that look fine, I'm similar size to you and the cups surprisingly fit perfectly, the only thing is I find the seams a bit scratchy which is probably the last thing you want right now. However they had a few different types, definately worth a look and they are VERY cheap.

hifi · 22/04/2012 10:48

i usually get mine from GAP,they are very soft and comfy. i purchased my last lot from PRIMARK and am very pleased with them, lovely and soft. i have huge boobs tho.
