Moisturiser with retinol and aha's

I desperately need a moisturiser to replace the one I used to for years and loved - neutrogena pore refining/visibly clear moisturiser. It was discontinued in the uk years ago and I stocked up in the USA but that supply has run out and it's no longer made. My face is now so spotty, I have huge whiteheads on my chin that I haven't had since a teenager.

Any suggestions? I think my acne is caused by clogged pores so the alpha hydroxy acids were brilliant and retinol great for anti-aging. Even something with salicylic acid would probably work.

Please help!!!

I could be wrong about this and you'd have to search but I thought I read here before that the Avene range from Boots contains the alpha-wotsits?

PerryCombover · 18/04/2012 11:10

this is the stuff you need.
Salicylic and v spot friendly

Avene Triacneal from Boots has retinaldehyde and glycolic acid which seems to fit what you're looking for. It's brilliant for anti-aging. Wear sunscreen during the day as your skin will be a bit more sensitive to the sun.

It doesn't contain an aha but you can use that in the evening once the spots are under control

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm half tempted to try to make my spots worse so I can go to the doctor to get some retin-a! Really need a good day cream though, will take a look at what you've suggested Smile

You can buy retin a on tinters.

Anyone tried Paula's choice Resist moisturisers? Particularly the one with aha and glycolic acid. The fact it doesn't have a SPF puts me off as would need to buy two products but it sounds ideal.

Is Paulas Choice available only from the internet?

PerryCombover · 20/04/2012 07:54

I thought aha was glycolic acid?

4aminsomniac · 20/04/2012 08:15

I love the Paulas Choice Resist moisturiser with AHAs, my skin has never looked better, no spots, and I don"t have to use a grainy scrub any more. I always used to to keep spots at bay, but the AHAs seem to do that on their own!

Who is Paula? Fgs

anniewoo · 20/04/2012 12:37

Wrote a book calked 'Don't Go to the Cosmetic Counter without me' loads of info on make up , creams etc. Worth a read. I got mine in the library.

1gglePiggle · 20/04/2012 15:00

Yeah you're right perry, aha is glycolic, bha is salicylic and it contains both.

I thought....
Aha was alpha hydroxy acid or known as glycolic acid
BHA was beta hydroxy acid or known a salicylic acid

They are both separate products that perform different functions afaik

BHA better for blackheads as it can get into the pore better than aha and can not only get rid of the dead kin and old oil but help sort things out in the pore itself
Aha is more for the top of the skin a brillint product but better for general brightening reducing wrinkles sun damage etc

Is that not right? (brain melts)
