My feet are freezing in ballet flats, how to keep them warm?

I have some lovely skinny jeans that look best with my ballet flats but whenever I wear them I get freezing feet and no I have chilblains which are agony. Is there something I'm missing? Does everyone else have freezing feet or is there a way of keeping them warm that I'm missing?

I thought about putting an insole in to give some extra insulation but I'm not sure if they will still fit very well.

I've given up and went back to boots for another month.

But if anyone had a better solution, please fill us in!

Boots and warm socks.

PuffPants · 16/04/2012 14:21

I'm still in my brogues - far too cold for no socks!

InNeedOfNewClothes · 16/04/2012 14:31

I don't have any boots, maybe that is where I'm going wrong.

If my outfit is indigo wash skinny jeans with a stripey breton style top what kind of boots can I wear?

Not wear ballet flats.

I'm still in boots and thick socks.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 16/04/2012 15:05

I am braving my ballet flats but have to confess I'm wearing pop socks with them Blush. Hoping I don't look like an old lady, don't think they're too visible from a distance as long as I make sure they're free of any wrinkles across my foot

They don't keep my feet super warm but do take the edge off a little

The other thing I wear with my skinnies if it's too cold but I don't want to wear boots is my Converse, not exactly smart but fine for school run/supermarket etc.

danceswithyarn · 16/04/2012 15:07

Tights? At least you know they'll stay upWink

StopEatingThatMud · 16/04/2012 15:10

As JustGrape suggested I caved in and bought some Converse inspired plimsoll type things from New Look the other day for the pricey sum of £6.99 whilst in town as my feet were FREEZING.

To be fair I bought them to wear with boyfriend/bootcut jeans as I can get away with socks as well then but they're probably still warmer than ballet flats.

InNeedOfNewClothes · 16/04/2012 15:19

I do have some converse but I just think they make me look so studenty and scruffy in an instant. I am naturally a scruff you see and I need very little help to look really scruffy and casual.

I guess they'd look ok with a stripy breton top, but I think they are too casual for most of my tops. I only really have summer tops because I'm a different size now and all my warm wintery clothes have been ebayed. I wish it would just warm up then I can wear them!!

I friggin love pop socks, keep the chill off my tootsies and you can't really notice people wearing them unless you're about three inches away from their foot. M&S, £2.50 for five pairs- you know you want to!

'Is there something I'm missing? Does everyone else have freezing feet or is there a way of keeping them warm that I'm missing?'

Good boots and thick socks!

Frontpaw · 16/04/2012 15:57

I used to live in flat pumps but my ankles went. And my back. Apparently they are quite bad for your feet! I used to wear silk socks with them when it was nippy. I don't dare wear them now!

StopEatingThatMud · 16/04/2012 16:10

Frontpaw I've heard similar things mentioned before, but what exactly are you meant to wear?

That sounds like I'm being argumentative...I'm not, I'm genuinely curious what the best thing is!

InNeedOf, I'm naturally scruffy too! I'm currently trying to lose the 3 stone I put on with dd and being almost a stone down I'm enjoying dressing like someone my own age (25) again rather than living in bland boring plain clothes. I like to think I'm channeling my inner student, rather than my mother, as I was a couple of months back ;)

Too cold for ballet flats for me! I briefly got my ballet flats out a few weeks ago but only worn once. Have polished boots and packed away until autumn/winter. I wear black shoe boots now, goes with dresses and skirts as well as jeans, is smart and allows for woollen tights/socks. Happiness is the absence of cold feet for me ;)

ouryve · 16/04/2012 16:24

Wear weather appropriate shoes?

Pascha · 16/04/2012 16:25

I'm wearing ordinary black socks with mine. I don't care.

redrubyshoes · 16/04/2012 16:29

Fleece insoles.

Frontpaw · 16/04/2012 16:34

It's because you really need a firm soled shoe that holds your foot firmly (so a lace up or boot). Back problems can often arise from foot problems. Both my tendons went and I have a dodgy back anyway!

My podiatrist told me the shoe stuff - he was not happy with my converse runners. I have never seen such a look of contempt!

lololizzy · 16/04/2012 19:25

depends where you are wearing them too. When i worked in a shop with a concrete floor and no heating, I had to give up the ballet flats and find boots with a thick rubber wedge heel just to insulate and get me away from that sodding floor!
