I have had lots but the best by far have been GHD's, they cost alot but they are worth it.

redlac · 16/04/2012 13:52

GHD's every time - well worth the initial outlay cos they last years

Lifebeginsat41 · 16/04/2012 14:29

GHD's. Mine are 8 years old, still going strong.

cazza40 · 16/04/2012 15:08

Ghd all the way they are pricey but mine are still going strong after 9 years

babyliss pro 230

h0tcrossmum · 16/04/2012 15:13

Depends on your hair really, if it's mostly straight and quite fine then I'd argue that you would be able to use a cheaper brand of hair straightener that you can get from Argos/boots etc

If however you have tons of thick, neither straight or curly hair like me then it's GHDs all the way!! Nothing else will touch it GrinGrin

FoofFighterYNWAJFT96 · 16/04/2012 16:39

Its the heat that makes the difference, go for the highest one you can find (with adjusters). GHD used to be the gold standard but technology has gotten so far that even the cheaper ones are as good as. I had GHD's before my babyliss ones and these are easily as good as them.

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 16/04/2012 19:15

I've had my GHDs for 10 years, I've had to replace the wire once but the plates were still going strong. Recently I noticed a chip on one of the plates so I fear they are now on the way out ... :(

I want to replace with new GHDs but not sure whether to stick with the wide plate version or go for the narrower (standard?) size.

HokeyCokeyPigInaPokey · 16/04/2012 19:33

Wisdom one of my plates fell out recently i sent them here

Sent them on the Friday and had them back on the Tuesday good as new, great service.

GHDs. Mine have been going strong for around 8 years. They just go on and on.

wonkylegs · 16/04/2012 20:02

Another one with 8yo GHD's still going strong. Lots of very long thick wavy hair and they work great

Cloud 9. I've said it before & I'll say it again; GHDs have deteriorated in quality since the company was sold roughly 5 years ago. The original inventor of GHDs started Cloud 9. My GHDs have been excellent for approx 9 years but when the time comes, I'll replace with Cloud 9s.

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 16/04/2012 21:33

Hokeycokey thanks for that, I'm quite attached to mine so would rather have them repaired. I will look at the link when I'm in laptop.

Member I didn't know that, very useful in case I have to replace mine

carrielou2007 · 16/04/2012 21:50

Agree it will depend on your hair type, if you have fine straightish hair you could buy pretty much anything.

If you have thick/curly/weavy/unruly hair it is GHD's all the way. I have bought goodness knows how many on recommendations of 'just as good if not better than GHD's' ink Mark Hill ones (could just about manage to tame my fringe) babyliss (I kept thinking they'll heat up enough in a min oh no,m that's it) to name a few. I keep one pair (can't remember the name now) for my if GHD's break and I need to buy another pair to keep me going for one day!

I bought a new pair in jan when they had 20 quid off, 79 pounds I think was a fab price, they make me feel like the me I tried to get by blow drying for 15 years only to walk outside to poof-up!!

I didn't know that about cloud 9 but I would be too scared to spend 129 on something when I know GHD's will be perfect.

I had some of the original ones that blew up, first pair I think was in about 2000 or 2001? Apart from that they tend to last me about 4 years as must be on my third air now but my hair really is unruly!!

I have Fudge straighteners. they were bought from a hairdressers wholesalers. I think they are (almost) as good as GHDs. They weren't much cheaper - but are still going strong after about 9 years .

14UnitsMyArse · 17/04/2012 14:14

Ghd they are by far the best Grin
