girls plain T-shirts and high-waisted trousers

Having spent a largely fruitless day traipsing round the shops with DD, I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction for plain nicely-coloured T-shirts for DD. Long-sleeved and short-sleeved would be lovely, in a size 8-9. And trousers/jeans that are relatively high-waisted and not skinny-fit. Please!!! DD is tall and long bodied and hates low-rise/hipster feeling trousers and between us we've discounted every pair we saw today. And that is a lot of trousers.

She's tall for her age and now that she is into the 'older child' ranges the lovely plain brights that I love to see her in seem to have been replaced by fancy and skimpy and I want her to look like a young girl a bit longer. Can anyone help me? I can't be alone in feeling like this....

Thank you :)

My dd1 is the same she is 10 but in 12-13 at least or a ladies size 6-8. She has had some lovely pastel pink jeans from George recently and some nice t shirts which have washed well.

I have exactly the same problem with DD1 who has additional fussiness in that she won't wear skirts, dresses, 3/4 length trousers and now even jeans Confused. I don't like things with mottos and logos. I've had a great deal of luck with plain long sleeved Tshirts and leggings at Tesco and some success with Next, H & M, M & S and Boden. I've also bought some nice knitwear on sale in Fat Face in the past.

Brilliant! Thank you, both of you. Fivecandles - you seem to have an even harder job than me! That doesn't leave a lot to choose from - shorts with tights? DD is really into skirts and dresses at the moment, which are fairly easy to come up with, but I have said that she has to have at least one pair of trousers and one pair of shorts. We found some lovely stone-coloured shorts in Next, and they had some denim ones, too, but their jeans were too low-rise.

H&M online have come up trumps for the T-shirts - a shame that I couldn't find them instore today Hmm . Now for the trousers. Everywhere seems to have skinny fit - have you had any luck finding a wider straight-leg or bootcut style that is quite high-rise?

Has anyone got these www.landsend.co.uk/Girls%27-5-pocket-Bootcut-Jeans/3004400,en_GB,pd.html for their DD? How low cut are they?

Thank you - those are great. I'll give DD the choice of some of those colours. Now for the trousers. I have ordered the Lands End ones online - does anyone know how they'll turn up, size-wise?

I have ordered other bits and pieces from lands end and they tend to come up bigger than clothes from other shops.

Boden jean are always a really good fit and not designed to look like adults clothes for children.

Ooh - I hadn't thought of Boden. I love the colours of the slim-fit ones... if only I can find a size that she'll wear. I'll see how the Lands End ones fit (and I'll report back) and try the Boden styles if Lands End don't work out.

Other place you could try is John Lewis own brand. Have had some good 'plain' clothing there in the past 2 years for my DDs.

I also find the Lands End clothing is huge on my DDs.

JennyWren · 20/04/2012 23:44

Well the Lands End jersery trousers I bought went down a treat - she loves those. But the ones I linked to above are not in favour :( . They look great but they don't feel high enough on her waist and she feels they're always about to fall down, so they have to go back. But one pair in the wardrobe is enough for me, so that will do. Thanks for the ideas everyone!

I didn't tell my dd and bought plain boys t shirts from h&m

mysteryfairy · 21/04/2012 11:07

They've already been recommended but I have never found anywhere as good as Boden for jeans for kids (the ladies ones are rubbish though). DD age 10 is in the age 12 to get them long enough for her. They have a reasonably high waist and the adjusters (admittedly yanked in a very long way for DD) are at least good quality so that if they come undone the ends don't vanish inside the waistband as tends to happen with jeans from H&M, Next etc.

DD has the citrus ones which she is wearing with DVF t shirt dress in blue from Gap (size L - stupid sizing system, have had to reassure DD she is not large just ten as opposed to three years old!) and it is definitely for me the funkiest outfit of the summer - would probably wear it myself if I could. Have posted about it before but I do love it and not remotely skimpy!
