Joules - yes or no?

There is going to be one of those big bunfights sales here next week and I wondered whether a) you can recommend their clothes, and b) whether the sales are any good?

I have previously bought a Joules coat for DD2 before which was good quality if a little small (she wore it at 3 but it was age 5) and some slipper boots for the DC but that is the extent of it - they were from a children's shop not a Joules one so I know little about them.

I like Joules, I have a bodywarmer and hoodie and bought similar items for my DC over the years. Quality is good and I have found the clothes wash and last well.

catsareevil · 15/04/2012 08:22

I think that the quality is good. I like the childrens clothes, but the adult things arent really my style.
The sales can be quite good.

DoraBelveden · 15/04/2012 08:34

I like Joules. I have a few of their dresses which fit like they were made for me, some trousers, some knitwear, a body warmer and tweed coat.

But I have found the sales have gone downhill in the last year or so. I went to one yesterday and I bought nothing! (usually spend 100 pounds plus). Everything was a lot more expensive, there were no multi buy offers and there was very little for children this time.

I went on the Saturday and Sunday last sale (i live very near) and they had definitely put some prices down on the Sunday afternoon despite saying that they don't (on fb etc)

slinkyboo · 15/04/2012 08:43

Another vote for Joules. I have stuff from there that I've had for years and it is v good quality.
My only bugbear is that I live abroad and it's impossible to get onto their UK website, even if I use an independent server...very annoying as the French Joules site hardly has anything Angry

OneHandFlapping · 15/04/2012 08:54

Unless you look like Taggie Campbell-Black (ie 17, leggy and gorgeous), Joules is expensive frumpsville.

cremeeggsrock · 15/04/2012 08:56

oohoohooh sale when? where, im norky and find there stuff flattering:) x

AlpinePony · 15/04/2012 08:57

I love joules, fab quality wash, wash and wash some more and it comes up new looking.

I don't look like TC-B, but I do have a horse. ;)

DoraBelveden · 15/04/2012 08:58

Same here, I am short not very tall, have 32ff bust but their size 12 dresses look made to measure on me.

DoraBelveden · 15/04/2012 08:58

Sale in Newmarket this weekend.

cremeeggsrock · 15/04/2012 09:00

oohhhhh newmarket, can do that! can you give me more details pleaseGrin [grovelling face]

Kaloobear · 15/04/2012 09:01

Don't buy their jeans. I bought some in the January sale and asked the SA how much they stretched. She said barely at all so I bought the 14s which fitted well in the changing room. After about half an hour of wear they were sagging around my bum and thighs. Then, most frustratingly, they didn't shrink back in the wash the way most jeans do. I'm very glad I only spent £20 odd on them and not the £80 or £90 they were full price.

AlpinePony · 15/04/2012 09:05

I'm busty too and the tops fit very well. I haven't tried trousers or skirts yet as I'm a very pronounced hourglass (I.e., fat-arsed) - what's the fit like on trousers?

cosysocks · 15/04/2012 09:08

Hmm interesting. I bought a Gillette last year washed once (seagull poo!) and it was ruined. Thought I'd not buy there again but everyone is saying it washes well.

cremeeggsrock · 15/04/2012 09:13

do they sell more than there outlet section on internet, cant get till this arvo and dont want to get there to find nothing left????

DoraBelveden · 15/04/2012 09:27

They bring stuff out all the time, they have a certain amount for each day. It is the Rowley Mile racecourse until 4pm (i think, may be 5pm?)

DoraBelveden · 15/04/2012 09:31

They had lots of skirts, shirts, body warmers, dresses, loads of polos, hoodies, coats etc for women. 40% 50% 60% and 70% off (used to be 80%!)

I didn't buy anything as I went specifically for a couple of things which they didn't have. There were lots of things I liked but I didn't think the deals were that good that I couldn't resist iyswim?

Bluepetticoat · 15/04/2012 10:05

No and 100 times no!

I can't see the appeal- the women's clothes are ghastly but can't speak for the kids stuff as mine are now adults.

MrsBovary · 15/04/2012 12:10

Does nobody think the quality has gone down ever so slightly? The women's clothes especially of late, and the children's quality has always been inconsistent.

CointreauVersial · 15/04/2012 12:19

I'm not a fan of pastel rugby tops and body warmers, and think the majority of their clothes look pricey and frumpy, but they do seem to be good quality.

anothergirlanotherplanet · 15/04/2012 12:27

DS lives in his Joules 'Wuzzy'

I always thought the women's stuff frumpy but just bought the cream floral dress from this season and it fits like a dream.

Also a vest top very good quality.

Don't think they are pricey when you compare with other brands

Megatron · 15/04/2012 12:32

I'm not a fan at all, their clothes do nothing for me.

NiceHamione · 15/04/2012 12:35

I buy quite a few dresses from Joules and always get compliments when I wear them. I don't do the rugby tops etc.

upahill · 15/04/2012 12:47

Twee mums wear IMO.

Those wearing them look like a load of middle class older mums approaching middle age (late 30's to mid 40's) trying to be trendy. ( i think)

Even the name drives me mad.

noddyholder · 15/04/2012 12:48

no

mrsebojones · 15/04/2012 12:48

The quality of the kids' stuff is good in IME. DD 7 has a coat from there that's being worn for the second year. It still looks good and can be machine washed. The thing that puts me off most is the prices - so if it's a sale go for it!
The womens' stuff I have less success with. I'm small and the dresses are invariable way too big and many of the styles too long. That said, I got a navy duck print dress from there last winter and have worn it lots and have had lots of compliments.
