My hair is falling out

My DS is 3 months and is my first. During pregnancy my hair grew loads and got really thick and lovely. My hairdresser did say that I'd start to lose the excess and it'd fall out a lot but the rate it's now falling out is worrying me. If I run my fingers through it I come away work strands and in the shower I get a lot come out. There are strands of hair all over my clothes and all over the house (we have laminate flooring)

My DS even ends up with with strands in his hands when I pick him up. Is this normal? I'm worried because someone I knew had very thinning hair after preg and her parting widened although that could have been due to her not eating well

Totally normal, although my kids were around the 6 month mark when it happened to me. I had a weird second fringe growing in for a while! Its just nature redressing the balance as your hair doesn't go through the falling out stage when pregnant.

Normal.Mine fell out like mad, and then the re-growth started so I had longer thin hair and short thicker hair at the roots. Had it all cut off in the end as my normal hair is fine and the thin bits were horrible. My curly hair also went straight... v, strange. All rights itself in the end.

Good to know it isn't just me! Should I do anything different like stop pulling it back tightly or stop straightening it?

Yes normal - DD was around 6 months and my hair just fell out in handfuls, it was really upsetting tbh!

I don't know if this helped but I started taking a multi- vitamin for women and the hair loss slowed and then stopped (when she was around 12 months). Someone told me at the time that zinc is what you need!

Happening here too. Reached a peak at about 5-6 months, now seems to be tailing off a bit at 7 months. I too have a halo of fuzz from the re-growth.

I am in a room with 6 ladies, 16 pregnancies between us, it happened on everyone.

Try spa tone for extra iron and a zinc supplement.

Happened to me and took until babes were about 18 months to look normal again

mn was where i learned the term for this. telogen effluvium. dd is 17 months and my hair is back to normal after the big shed began at 3 months.

How much oil do you rub in and do you do it before you wash your hair? I'd like to try the same thing but don't want my hair looking greasy

It can be lack of iron as well as hormones. I took Spatone both during and after pregnancy. Also make sure that you are getting a good balanced diet, hair is made from protein, so you need to ensure that you are getting enough, especially if you are BF, which seems to suck out a lot of nutrients from the Mum!
As a new Mum, I found it easy to miss meals and resorted to Complan drinks to make sure that I was getting something inside me.

taking Udo's Oil (to drink)has helped me as have dodgy thyroid and also done Lighterlife twice...my hair is now healthy and shiny, no more hair loss either

If you get bloods tests make sure you get your ferritin checked as well as your haemoglobin. I am not anaemic but have low ferritn which might account for my hair loss when my dd was 15 moniths. Am suplementing with iron but my ferritin stubbornly refuses to come up by much. My hair is improving though....
