Dark circles

So I'm 48 49 next month, have had these blessed black semis since about age 13, so am pretty au fait with disguising them.
I use a Bobby Brown combo of three different products and have a list of various others to try when these run out.

Thing is, I've just seen some footage of myself that DD and DS2 took, larking about, and realised that what were once marks either side of my nose have now spread to become hollow panda eyes, complete with puffiness and lines.
So has anyone used an eye cream that's actually worked on this sort of tragic damage?
Have heard Neo Strata and Dr Nick Lowe mentioned, probably others I can't remember now.
Or has anyone ever actually perservered with those tedious facial exercises?

I've never found an eye cream that doesn't sting, btw, so have always just slapped on moisturiser.
Please no one tell me to get more sleep/drink more water/give up dairy. Smile.

I too am blessed with hollow sockets and shadows

you need to get more creative with your concealer , applying a mix of light reflective and heavy duty and take it up into dark patch on inner eye corner and outer corner too, blend with a decent blush

I also run light reflective concealer along the sunken bit to bring it forward

Blusher makes a massive difference

And sorry, I dont think any cream works- we were born this way baby

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 11/04/2012 23:19

Hmm I use the BB corrector right up into the inner dark patch, then a bit at the outside as well. Concealer goes on top, then the white powder, so they're pretty well covered - it's just they've literally come full circle now, and there are hollows and puffiness where the skin used to be firm, which accentuates them as my kids have kindly shown me.

I take it the Neo Strata stuff doesn't work then - I came across an old post from yourself saying you'd started using it? < not stalker >

I too am a panda under the make up. Also use bobbi brown oil free compact is consistency quite thick....but underneath I do the following....dermalogica total eye cream..£30 a tube last about 3 months used most days (just seen an offer in another thread) works by lightening the circles making them whiter. Then bobbi foundation then clinique concealer it's the airbrush one quite light really lightens the eye area....then build it back up using a very light eyeshadow with a bit of glisten in it either a v light pink/pearly colour and then tiny bit if darker colour (not v dark though) in socket. Don't ever try to go for smokey eye look Blush my do was totally fooled and didn't realise the horrendous problem that lurked beneath until he'd been living with me about 6 weeks! Blush

5babyangels · 11/04/2012 23:37

Yes I use blusher too Grin this really helps!!! Accentuate the good bits and the bad buts dint look so bad Wink

I've been using neostrata since going for a consultation about possible fillers a few months back (am only 32 but feel like having DS has stolen my youthful looks). Was told I didn't need fillers but did have dehydrated skin, and was recommended a new skincare routine using neostrata. It hasn't done anything for the dark circles although my skin definitely looks better generally.

cybbo · 12/04/2012 09:23

Yes I was told to try neostata and it did make the under eye skin smoother so wrinkles didnt make the concealer look crap!

But didnt change shadows at all

Short of fillers to bulk out the socket, I dont think theres anything else concrete you can do, its a dusguising job as much as poss

cybbo · 12/04/2012 09:26

I've also been putting a teensy dot of highlighter (benefit high beam) just on the inner corner of my eye and it seems to lift the area and make eyes look brighter

I do bang on about under eye shadows a lot on here! Wink

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 12/04/2012 09:39

I use the BB corrector, then a mixture of concealors. I really hate them, especially since no they come with the added benefit of lines Hmm so am considering a fractional eyelift to see if that will help.

The highlighter thing that Cyb does definately works.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 12/04/2012 14:09

I used to do the highlight inner corners thing when I was young - just as part of my seventies/eighties look. I then fell into the whole nineties 'any colour as long as it's taupe' routine, which I've now come out of and embraced my 'summer' colours again.
Now find it hard to find anything shiny enough to twinkle out from underneath the bony promontory.
Will have a look at the high beam stuff though. Be nice to pretend I'm 17 again!

While I've got a bit of attention, any recommendations for a decent 'bring your invisible eyes into the light' eyeshadow? I've found a light cream one by no7, and pale pink Bourjois, but am fed up of shelling out ££ for the likes of Benefit or VB, only to find they're too matte and dark.

Am also one of the very fortunate owners of panda eyes.

Can they really do fillers around the eye area?

What about Revision Teamine eye cream? I've read it does have some benefit on dark circles but it's hard to filter info from cosmetic companies. I know it's sold by dermatologists so perhaps it's a tad better than your average. Worth a look. I think it's expensive.

lurkingaround · 12/04/2012 15:29

MissB what's a fractional eyelift?

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 12/04/2012 15:39

It's a carbon dioxide laser treatment. It's meant to rejuvenate the skin around eyes, reduces the appearance of dark rings and wrinkles while tightening eyelid skin and elevating drooping eyebrows. God I want it now.

It's also called the "Madonna" lift Grin

lurkingaround · 12/04/2012 20:29

Sounds great MissB. I also want it now

NowWeKnow · 12/04/2012 20:59

I also suffer from dark under eyes. Currently I use Estee Lauder Ideal Light Illuminator then some Benefit Powderflage on top.

lololizzy · 12/04/2012 21:32

hollow sockets and mega shadows to boot, here. I just have really thin skin.
None of the creams have ever worked for me as it's not discolouration, just thin skin so I can't change that, only conceal. Also I can't cake on heavy masking concealer as a/ it irritates and then my eyes run b/ that looks as bad as what's underneath
I put on foundation (which is always Gosh or Armani - are not too heavy and not too light on me) as normal (over primer) then No7 Instant Radiance concealer (the wand one) as it's really light and goes on nicely and not cakey. Occasionally I dab the most minute dab of Vichy Dermablend at the very edge of the circles (ie bottom of them) gently pat it on with a very slight touch--- that way it doesn't ride up into any wrinkly bits! Then set all that with a light amount of Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder (the lightest shade)
None of this looks cakey/ heavy (doesn't emphasise any lines, and I'm 41) and no one has ever pointed out my dark rings , with all this on (even if i skip the Vichy)- but believe me, plenty of remarks if i don't go to all this trouble every morning! ( i look like I've been punched).

lololizzy · 12/04/2012 21:33

I've heard of fillers and would like to know more as getting married this year, but scares the hell out of me really. The fillers, not the wedding!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 12/04/2012 22:40

I'm the same re. the fillers - anything remotely surgical really.
And I know what you mean about the caking/eyes running thing.
My BB routine covers them pretty well, but then I have to put my glasses on top and that wears it all away.
I hardly ever wear foundation as I get quite itchy with it, and I think my skin's ok without (have been told that by more than one beautician so I've chosen to believe it!).
Might look into that light no7 thing, see if I can figure out a lighter but effective way of dealing with them - otherwise I can see me adding more and more gunk as time goes on.
Thanks for responses - if anyone comes across a fab cream, please shout!

yeah can you imagine if you reacted to the fillers..or they moved inside you to the wrong area?! Like my cheeks. They're pretty round. I need some of the cheek fat to go under my eyes, without a bag effect of course!
Unfortunately I have to add a lot of layers of gunk and try to make it look as though I haven't. My rings really are severe. I was sick of all the rude comments.
I like the No7 as it blends in quite well and I retouch during day to outer corners as have watery eyes. Touche Eclat did nothing for me, and byTerry went all tidemarky (i'm talking about the wand thingy) like if i needed to retouch it, I couldn't remove the old stuff (without remover) nor add more on top of it...it just made an almost rubbery tidemark, whereas with the No7 I can go over it ok maybe I'm just not meant to buy the pricier brands

lololizzy · 12/04/2012 23:07

I have an asian friend and her circles are due to discolouring and creams can lighten that to an extent. But I have -crappy pale fragile white british skin that is incredibly thin, so you can see the blood through it under eyes then why does it look black and not red?!--
