keratin straightening - am i doing something wrong? Please help all those who have had it done!

okay, so got my hair straightened using the keratin global straightening kit at the hairdressers. a cool £150 later, and i am not impressed, to say the least. but am just wondering if i am doing something wrong in terms of drying it etc. in the salon, i asked how i should style it- just blow dry and then sweep straighteners over it. i was a bit Hmm about the latter, as i thought the whole point was that you didn't need straigheners! so i haven't used the straighteners on it, just blow dryed and didn't use any product, as also advised. I am using the shampoo and conditioner that came with the treatment.

So, questions:

  • am I doing something wrong?
  • should i need to use straighteners to get the full effect?
  • should i be using some sort of styling product on my hair?

the current result i am getting is not much different to my hair before- ie a bit wavy with a bit of frizz. not straight and swishy like i expected!

thanks!

I do mine at home (with a hairdresser friend, lucky me) and I end up with frizz free hair that doesn't need straighteners. It's very frizzy and slightly wavy without treatment. I don't use any product or special shampoo/conditioner, mine just says to avoid products with salt in. It has been transformational for my hair. So I'm wondering if yours has taken properly.

hmm, don't think it has. they used a new version called "global" keratin that was washed in and out in half an hour rather than the original which I think takes 3 days or something.

looks like i will have to go back and get them to redo it.

any other comments from others who have done it or are hairdressers would be appreciated, not least because it would give me confidence to go back to them.

I did a home kit on Friday. Had to wash my hair with enclosed clarifying shampoo, leave to 80%dry then smooth through the treatment then dry straight and straighten. Now the reality..... Wash hair, comb through product, 2 hours of drying later hair still 'wet' eventually it's sort of dry so straighten like a good one, spend next 2 days looking like I never wash my hair. I got very excited at hsirwshing time looking forward to the swishy locks.....my hair looks no different to before I started-I'm so disappontex just like you op!

haha bulby, don't know what's worse- me shelling out £150 and looking no different or you going through all that hassle and having manky looking hair and looking no different!

thing is- if i'd done it myself, i would almost have built in a probability that it might not work. but would have expected it to work at a salon.

I had mine done at salon and was told that the treatment would cut down the drying time by 75% but that I would still need to straighten it. I was initially disappointed and it took about 2 weeks until I either mastered the art of drying it or just reconciled myself to the fact that I wasn't going to have glossy straight locks without going through (some) of my usual rigmarole. My hair felt great and the colour lasted longer

It probably is me' to be honest but I did expect to see some difference Smile. Glad I didn't spend the salon whack now because was very tempted.

thanks Jakadaal, sounds similar to what i was told. will try straightening it tomorrow, and see if it makes a difference. am struggling at the moment to see the benefits of it though.

It's not supposed to straighten. When I had it done, my hair was just a lot easier to manage, it dried really quickly and was a lot less frizzy. I still had to straighten it.
