Is all mineral make-up dry and powdery?

BonfireOfKleenex · 10/04/2012 11:50

Just wondered - I'm having a go at ditching foundation as I'm getting increasingly blotchy, veiny and spotty (poss rosacea).

This morning I cheated a bit by using Lily Lolo powder as concealer on the worst bits, but although it looks okayish I'm getting that dry tight 'caught in a dust-storm' feeling on my skin. Apparently mineral products are better for rosacea, but I can't do this dusty thing - are there any liquidy ones?

(I'm going to try and persist with no foundation for a bit anyway, I think my skin has been better over the last couple of days.)

I think that Bare Minerals are bringing out a new non-powder range of foundation.

MissFoodie · 11/04/2012 11:03

they've brought out pressed powder eye shadows, will prob do same with foundation, but will still be powder, albeit pressed

PerryCombover · 11/04/2012 11:29

Vitalumiere aqua wasn't for me...I found it drying? Go figure
The satin was decent

Mineral powder make up is not good on me at all

emsyj · 11/04/2012 12:00

I think you have taken totally needless offence MadamePinot. I have had 17 years of treatment for acne, including 3 years under a dermatologist with regular hospital visits and various strong treatments. Minerals made me itch and I found the buffing irritated my (not usually sensitive) skin. I've only said what I have personally experienced - including commenting that they clearly do suit some people and many love them. They are not a universal panacea for all skin problems in my experience, that's all I'm saying.

Are you actually calling me arrogant for saying that they don't suit everybody? Hmm. I think you have a bit of a problem - and it's not with your skin.

PerryCombover · 11/04/2012 12:02

Emsyj
Seriously.......

emsyj · 11/04/2012 12:04

I didn't really like the Lily Lolo MissFoodie - the flawless silk powder is quite nice, I do still use that as it doesn't change the colour of my foundation and it isn't all powdery matte - but the foundation wasn't for me. I did get a sample of BM but not sure if it was original or matte? It was a mini tub from the counter in Debenhams. It was much heavier coverage than the Lily Lolo I thought, and also quite itchy. I don't usually have sensitive skin so not sure if it's down to the powder texture or the bismouth?

emsyj · 11/04/2012 12:04

Seriously what? I have no idea what you mean.

MissFoodie · 11/04/2012 12:07

emsy bet it was BM original....
do you like the flawless silk then? maybe all you need is a finishing powder rather than a foundation? if so then give the BM mineral veils a try, I think they actually do a pack with a sample size of each of the 4 of them

emsyj · 11/04/2012 12:12

I do like the flawless silk as a setting powder - but I need coverage underneath as my skin is ugly scarred and I still get breakouts too - might try the Chanel Vitalumiere with the mineral veil/flawless silk over the top. Interesting the Vitalumiere Aqua was drying, might have to go and poke about on Chanel at the new range as their shades seem to suit me much better now I am old and haggard (used to be a firm Estee Lauder customer but I seem to be between shades now).

MadamePinot · 11/04/2012 12:35

No offence taken at your claim I have ishoos, emsyj. Just so you know.

I think calling Minerals emperors new clothes and that you have recognised them as such is arrogant, yes. If you didn't mean it to be then fair enough :) They work brilliantly for so many people and the tone of your post that the rest of us who like them have in some been fooled. What else did you mean if not that, by using the EMC reference? Confused Again, if you didn't mean it to be, then fair enough.

I shall leave this thread now - cats claws out over make-up really ain't my style. But I maintain that for alot of people minerals are confidence boosting and that it is horses for courses. Not idiots fooled.

Thanks btw Perry :)

emsyj · 11/04/2012 12:48

I referred to them as Emperor's New Clothes because they are just a different formulation - in the same way that some people like a liquid, some like a mousse, some like a cream etc - some people like a powder. But they're not 'new and different' - as I said upthread, the ingredients that give them their colour and cover are the same as you find in other foundations, the only difference is that they are powder (at least, that's what I understand from what I've read). They're just a different formula. As I have already said repeatedly, they suit some people and not others.

I genuinely don't believe I have said anything arrogant or offensive and I think you were out of order to address such a shitty post to me. This is, after all, supposed to be a lighthearted Style & Beauty thread. I think your reaction was rude and utterly disproportionate - in much the same way, I imagine, that you think mine to you was.

PerryCombover · 11/04/2012 13:14

ER...
Emsyj I was utterly shocked by your first post addressed to Pinot. Suggesting that she had Ishoos greater than skincare felt to me as though you were making a personal attack and thus acting agin mumsnet rules.

I didn't think Pinot's post was shitty, more simply asking you to lay off taking a pitying/sneering tone on BM users as many, after lots of issues, have finally found their holy grail product.

I don't know if it was how you meant to seem in your original posts (i'd doubt that) but your reply to a mild rebuke from Pinot was downright rude IMO.

PerryCombover · 11/04/2012 13:19

Not utterly shocked but surprised

Snakeonaplane · 11/04/2012 14:11

I think you may need to check your definition of emperors new clothes Hmm

AberdeenAgnes · 11/04/2012 14:17

Can anyone explain bare mineral to me please? Is this the one with the starter pack? Is there anywhere I can go to try it out? I used to buy prestige skin loving minerals but boots have discontinued it Angry and I don't like nor being able to get my make up on the high street. We have a number of dept stores with large make up counters in my town, do they sell it in dept stores?

MissFoodie · 11/04/2012 14:23

LOL
yes, it is, go to one of their counters, they sell in Debenhams, not sure about HoF.
otherwise the best thing is to watch the videos on QVC to get an idea, before you go and try it on, as there are 2 types of foundation (original and matte) and the first is more "shiny" but not, it's hard to explain, you will understand when you see it.
Aside from this, the counter will try and flog you the kit, make sure you try everything on first and then go outside, before you decide; plus, you can buy online cheaper anyway;
As you will see from the thread, it's not for everyone, but if you prefer powder/natural finish then you will probably like it. I use it but not their brushes and I don't use the concealer or any powder round eyes (or I look 100), so, again, depends as some people swear by it round the eyes....!

noddyholder · 11/04/2012 15:21

Ithink it looks sort of grimy

BonfireOfKleenex · 11/04/2012 15:36

Oh dear, who knew mineral make up was so controversial! Shock Sad Thanks for all the advice though folks Smile
