Does it seem angry? Dry skin over it ? Are there any obvious veins? Like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.sciencephoto.com/image/259899/350wm/M2200012-Spider_naevus_on_the_skin_of_a_person_s_arm-SPL.jpg&imgrefurl=www.sciencephoto.com/media/259899/view&h=245&w=350&sz=23&tbnid=QcIr76mHQRCDuM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=129&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dspider%2Bnaevus%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=spider+naevus&docid=ynBh2kM4jTpkqM&sa=X&ei=moKIT5zbEumj0QW-" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">zcnfCQ&ved=0CDwQ9QEwBA&dur=39 this ?

Could it be a subcutaneous cycst (think that is what they are called?). They sort of pop up under your skin and they have to be surgically removed I think? Someone I know had one once?

Penneyanne · 13/04/2012 21:39

My ds 12 has two of these and they have been there for years. He is a bit conscious of these now and I have no idea what they are.He has one on his left cheek and one under his right eye. They are most odd as you cant feel anything ,they are just marks-about the same size as a spot but .Like a freckle really but red IYKWIM.Confused

kaumana · 13/04/2012 22:08

TBH make an appointment with your GP, that's what they are there for, don't worry about wasting their time, you have a genuine concern/question that requires an answer.

itchywitch · 14/04/2012 05:59

Perhaps its red hyperpigmentation from an old spot or wound? They can hang around for 6 months to a year, longer if you tan/burn in the area.

ihatethecold · 14/04/2012 07:40

My daughter has one just like the link but redder on the bridge of her nose.
I used to have them on my face when i was little.
My doctor tried to freeze them off when i was about 8

It was not a pleasent experienceSad

ebbandflow · 14/04/2012 10:41

my dd has had a red dot above her lip since she was two-I just presumed some sort of broken capillary. I would quite like to know the proper definition of what it is too. It can be more noticeable depending on the weather. I imagine it is the kind of thing that can be blasted off by laser treatment.

Please go to gp. I had a carcinoma on my back totally unaware - thought it was just a red rash thing. Very small. Doctor spotted it when checking my breathing with stethascope.

mindermummy · 21/04/2012 21:30

Yes it looks similar to that pic. Maybe next time I go doc I will mention it. My friends say its not noticeable, but I think it is Sad

I had one hence why I posted the link, however they found out I had a small growth under the skin which was causing the naevus it was removed easily, no issues.

MitrochondrialEve · 21/04/2012 23:40

Yes, please go to GP. I had a small round red mark on my skin. I was referred to a dermatologist. The mark turned out to be harmless - a dermatofibroma. Both the GP and the consultant were very reassuring that going to the GP was the right thing to do.

mindermummy · 23/04/2012 13:52

And what did they do for it!? Has it reduced the look of it!?!? I will def go, thanks

Sorry for not replying sooner, OP.

My dermatofibroma wasn't on my face. I had a choice whether to have it removed. I decided to not to have it removed, as it is harmless and not in particularly obvious place. My initial worry had been skin cancer because I am very fair, so I was pleased enough with the reassurance.

Consultant said he would be happy to remove it right away if I wanted, and that if it bothers me at a later date to ask for a referral back. Also the consultant said that a dermatofibroma while harmless in itself can grow near a nerve and 'pinch' the nerve - that can cause nippy pains, in which case they would remove it right away. I've had no problems with mine.

Consultant also asked about any other marks or moles on my skin and examined them all. So well worth the visit.

small one on my daughter's face, in exactly the same place as I have one.. the GP said it was.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telangiectasia. Laser therapy if she's getting self concious about it, he advised. It appeared much earlier in life (for her) than mine did, so I got it checked out.
