Almond or Coconut oil?

darby123 · 08/04/2012 20:48

I have been thinking of buying either one for My hair. I like the smell of Almond and not so keen on the smell of coconut, also don't like the thought of heating up the coconut oil.

just brought philip kinsley elastizer---any one else tried it ?

darby123 · 08/04/2012 21:03

tazzy I have tried that, and I didn't really like it, it made My hair very frizzy with loads of static.

I've been considering getting coconut oil because of all the positive reviews on here- but I hate the smell of coconut! I'm going to try almond oil next, I used Mystic oil and not very keen.

darby123 · 08/04/2012 21:41

Never heard of mystic oil.

The coconut oil I got from the supermarket is odourless, a shame
Because I LoVE the smell of coconut. I just got the stuff you'd use for cooking. It melts in my hands quite quickly so no need to heat it up

darby123 · 08/04/2012 21:48

Thanks herroyal it's the heating up that puts Me of, but if it melts then it's all good.

Another vote for the coconut oil here - what a difference it's made to my dry skin!

ScarfOfSexualPreference · 08/04/2012 21:50

darby123 I saw people on here talking about the different hair oils, argon and morrocan etc and someone mentioned Mystic oil and after looking round Amazon Ebay etc I found samples farly cheap- literally only went for Mystic because of the samples! But it makes my hair kind of flyaway, which it has never been. Otherwise ok, I suppose, nothing special!

ScarfOfSexualPreference · 08/04/2012 21:51

Oh if it's odourless I may get some! I saw some in Superdrug, a little white tub for £1.99 or so. Is that what people are using?

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 08/04/2012 21:55

My coconut oil doesn't smell either Sad

darby123 · 08/04/2012 22:03

I think coconut with a hint of another oil sounds nice. But I think I will go for coconut oil in the end Smile
scarfofsex ah I think I have heard of it, it's mythic oil, thought it was mystic Blush

Oh oops haha you're right, guess my head is less mystic than I thought (and I should learn to read labels!)

HorsesDogsNails · 08/04/2012 22:10

My coconut oil is the one in the white pot from Superdrug and it's fab. It's solid so I scrape my thumbnail across it, melt the small amount in my palms and then rub through my wet hair. Do not use a lot - you seriously don't need it, a small amount goes a long way and it makes a massive improvement to the texture of my hair.

Hth's

I remember on qvc a lady from global gossess selling a gorgeous hair oil, it had quite a few different ingredients in there, it wasn't in a solid form. I always meant to buy that, but anyway they don't sell it anymore.

I use and love coconut oil for my hair and for ocm. Superdrug and Waitrose do a tub for £1.99.

FourYolksAche · 08/04/2012 22:57

If you use a hair oil, is it ok to use GhDs after? Or will I be frying my hair? Would it be ok if I put it on the night before and washed out?

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 08/04/2012 23:43

I use coconut oil mixed with conditioner and sometimes I add a little tea tree oil or lavender oil for the smell.

darby123 · 09/04/2012 12:05

lesser that sounds nice. Smile

HepHep · 09/04/2012 12:43

Yolks, yes if you GHD after using oil you will fry your hair. Wash it out first :)

SimoneD · 09/04/2012 14:22

If you are buying the 100% pure coconut oil (food grade) then it does smell of coconut. Im not sure whether the cheap stuff is suitable for a facial moisturiser or OCM but it should be OK for hair.

Shimbo · 09/04/2012 16:44

Akamuti does a wonderful coconut oil which does smell of coconut and is organic/food grade I think, as well as avocado oil and other oils, which I have used on my hair and they are all great at conditioning, I think oils work far better than any shop conditioning treatments in my opinion (I don't work for Akamuti, just came across them when I was struggling with eczema and dry skin). Extra virgin olive oil is also really good.
