At the age of 39 I'm just sorting out a skin routine - I should have started 20 years ago and have a lot of damage to try and undo!

I have just started using a glycolic face peel and have been recommend a moisturiser with SP50. I wonder if anyone could recommend a RetinA cream and advise as to what percentage I should be looking for - Big thanks x

You can also get it from retinolskincare.co.uk for the 0.05% cream. We have bought from here before. Just be sure to use sparingly!

I've been using retin A for a few months now and my skin is looking great: I did go through a phase of flaky skin but dealt with it by using it on alternate nights and applying a moisturiser after the retin (I would leave it at least an hour to let the retin absorb so sometimes I was asleep by then). The only time it went a bit wrong was using the retin the day after using the Bravura glycolic peel so I would be cautious about using retin A soon after a peel.

I'm using lrp redermic r retinol every night. I've been using it for about 6 weeks but I'm expecting it will take 3 to 6 months to see the full effect. So far so good.

I've struggled with acne for about 5 years now, was using Proactiv off and on, which didn't work for me at all, Proactiv was a complete waste of money for me. Scheduled an appointment with my dermotologist, he put me Minocyclin for 2 months in combination with Retin-A once a day at bedtime and Cleocin T pads twice daily. My skin has improved greatly, been clear now for 3 months, still using Retin-A and will most likely continue using Retin-A to continue having clear skin, skin sensitivity is the only side effect I've had, and I think that's a small price to pay to have clear skin. Overall I'm very happy with Retin-A.

Well, I bought Retin-a online (without prescription) from:

www.datemio.net/Retin-A

I received the order and it was on time and the cream works great.

Does retin a actually get rid of wrinkles? I've got several thanks to misspent youth in full sun and very fair skin....

Saxons · 06/01/2016 06:57

It will smooth them while you use it but stop once you stop. Use a high factor sun cream

SeasonalVag · 09/01/2016 18:53

So basically you need to keep refreshing your skin by getting rid of the wrinkling layers.....do the wrinkles come back better or shallower?

jakejake123 · 05/03/2016 20:18

It works for your skin but is quite strong! We bought ours from healthyskincareonline.uk and it arrived in about 2 days which was the retin a brand but there are apparently other alternatives available which are good

Babli1980 · 30/04/2017 22:34

nickpic · 01/05/2017 08:20

Following this as im 41 and struggling with my skin, my chin looks awful, like

nickpic · 01/05/2017 08:22

Oops pressed post too soon! Looks like orange peel. Been using nip and fab products for a few weeks but not really any improvement. Will Retanol improve the appearance? Also what about the peels?

buggerthebotox · 01/05/2017 08:27

I use Ialuset, available online. It's got the highest concentration of HA going.

Hulder · 01/05/2017 08:55

The point of Retin A (if you buy the prescription version) or retinol (the weaker non-prescription version) is they thicken your skin so propping up your pores and making it better and less wrinkly. It also exfoliates it so the top layers go off quicker which is great for acne and wrinkles - a win win Smile

However you need to build up very very carefully as you can get redness and irritation when you start and sunscreen is an absolute must as you have exfoliated skin so it is more sensitive to the sun.

I used it for a few years until I got lazy and my skin did look amazing with it.

buggerthebotox · 01/05/2017 12:31

How do you get it on prescription, though, hulder?

Theycalledmethewildrose · 01/05/2017 16:45

Does anybody use The Ordinary products ? Recommend?

Ollivander84 · 01/05/2017 17:26

Yes, the ordinary 2% is good and non irritating. The 1% is a different formulation and strong - go careful

Scottishandconfused · 01/05/2017 17:36

My skin and I love retinol! The Ordinary does a great one and is less than a tenner. Ultrasun spf30 or 50 for your daily moisturiser, it stays that spf all day.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 01/05/2017 19:12

Okay a silly question - how is the 1% harsher on skin than the 2%.

Also do you apply after a home peel at night?

Ollivander84 · 01/05/2017 19:15

1% is a different formulation, the 2% is formulated to be gentler and non irritating it's retinoid as opposed to the 1% which is retinol

Ollivander84 · 01/05/2017 19:16

And no, if using the 1% you have to be v v careful. I was using the 2% for months and nearly burned myself with the 1%
I don't use any other exfoliant type things with it, you need SPF, moisturiser and to start with using it every 3-4 days

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 01/05/2017 19:21

If you are interested in something a bit less harsh, I've been really pleased with kiehls vitamin c serum - 10% vitamin c I think. Skin plumper and more radiant, no irritation at all. It's pricey (60 quid) but the bottle has lasted me about three months so far, and still about a third left.

floatingfrog · 01/05/2017 19:22

I have been using Retin A for 4 years now after looking really haggard. My skin is amazing now and I regularly get told I look at least 10 years younger!

You have to start slowly and build up I was on 0.25 for 6 months and then moved up to 0.5 and now only use it twice a week for maintanence.

I would use it a couple of times a week and build up slowly. You will get a little redness and flakiness to begin with but just go with it and ease off if it becomes too red. Remember just a pea sized amount for your whole face!

I use the glycolic Bravura when the skin is a little flaky and this helps.

As you jnow 50spf everyday as you will permanently damage your skin if it burns. That is the risk so make sure you can commit to sunscreen.

I get mine from Ebay and have never had a problem. It comes from India. I just got 3 tubes for £30. They remove the sellers as fast as they come on.

floatingfrog · 01/05/2017 19:27

And you have to wait until the skin is completely dry - 20 -30 mins. If you are impatient it will make your skin really red and sore. Although I whack it on after about 5 mins now but I have dry.

It is a prescription cream so you have to be really careful.
