I need to get my hair cut but I don't understand technical terms or know what to ask for. I am going to Bluewater to try my luck there so any tips would be gratefully received.

My hair is a good 3 months past its due date for a cut. it is past collar length but I am not bothered whether I have 1/2 inch or 3 inches off. The top and fringe are a mess. I am 40, not attractive and pretty rubbish at hair styling. Lost cause [bugrin].

OMG that clip in fringe is crazy Grin I had NO idea such a thing existed!!

I might have to get one - i'm considering having a fringe cut but i'd love to try the idea out before i get the chop

sorry OP - you have my sympathy about your crap experience... you need to find a hairdresser you trust and stick with her and build a relationship, I have rarely found anybody who really gets my hair first time but my current hairdresser was not terrible ok first time so i gave her a chance and she's great now.

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 06/04/2012 17:26

I had found one that was okay but tbh she has got too expensive and only works part time and I needed my hair cut and as is uaul for me, I didn't plan ahead in time. Kids keep getting in the way!

Got hair colour on and I just know I am going to regret it [buhmm].

12 minutes to go...

This is ridicuous. I have woken up and my hair is my first thought. I actually got tears in my eyes [buhmm][bublush]. I have regretted going long to short before but not within minutes, more like a few days. The hair dye didn't do a lot and now I am seriously thinking about going to my normal hairdresser and begging waiting all day for her to squeeze me in. It is such a shallow thing to be bothered about but I really hate it and wish I hadn't had it done at all.

No it isn't shallow and the person who cut your hair sounds crap. I am someone who always goes long then short then long again because I can't make up my mind but I haven't had a hairdresser be so rude to me before.

Definitely try and get an appointment today, have you tried washing it and styling it yourself?

Love the fake fringe [busmile] I can't decide whether to have a fringe so may get one of those and try it out instead. Don't they look obvious though?

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 07/04/2012 07:17

And my fringe being too long? Er, that is why I want it cut!

I straightened it when I got home and it was a tiny bit better and then coloured it and blow dried it. I am definitely washing it again this morning to see if I can make it any better but I swear the back isn't straight.

If it was your normal hairdresser and you weren't happy I would suggest that it was a one off and you should go back. But honestly in your case if you are that unhappy I would book elsewhere.
A new haircut should make you feel good and confident not crap.

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 07/04/2012 07:27

I have tried to book on line but my usual lady is all booked up.

I have managed to get a hair appointment at 10 at my usual salon but not my sual stylist so hopefully they will be able to do something as I am really upset and also very vry embarrassed at how upset I am. It is only a hair cut. I am not vain or even remotely pretty so no one is going to be looking at me anyway!

Hair cut again. Looks a million times better and I am happier now if more skint.

GLad you're happier about it, I would have been really upset too.

savoycabbage · 08/04/2012 09:25

That's great. It is awful when you get a bad haircut.

Pinkshoes2 · 09/04/2012 15:02

How rude was that hairdresser! Ive heard bad stories about Supercuts, from being rough at hairdrying, to hair thats not straight, yet they always have customers. Glad you got your hair sorted out good in the end.
