tooth whiting at home

My teeth are getting quite discoloured, thanks to my love of black coffee.

I am looking recommendations from you wise ladies on home whitening kits please, as I really don't fancy paying £200 plus to the dentist

If it's from coffee then a scale and polish at your hygienist will fix it. About £50.

Otherwise you could buy illegal tooth whitening products from someone on the internet who may or may not make them in their garage & permanently damage your teeth requiring expensive remedial work...

The £200 covers insurance for any thing that could go wrong as well as knowing that your dentist has to source the chemicals from a legitimate company plus the fact that knowing the person whitening your teeth has at least a GCSE in biology.

It depends whether you're prepared to take the risk.

thanks grumpystiltskin, tbh I had not even thought about buying over the Internet. I just thought I could pop into boots and buy something off the shelf Blush

I might have to give this more though

Nothing you can buy over the counter in Europe will actually whiten your teeth, the chemicals are banned by trading standards. In fact, there was a recent ruling that dentists may be exempt from the trading standards law and can sell tooth bleach but it's all a very grey area.

If you google it I'm sure the recent stuff will come up. The chemical is carbamide peroxide.

Hi I use crest whitening strips and they definitely make my teeth whiter.

Not sure why I posted twice. karbea where do you source your crest strips?

I've also used crest whitening strips and would recommend them. They are legal in the US but not in the UK. You can get them from ebay or from US websites.
