Sun protection cream: under or over make-up?

Have always been confused by this. Come summer, I feel I need more protection than integrated SPF of 15, so buy a separate cream with SPF 30. Does it go on before moisturiser, make-up or after? I currently moisturise, apply SPF then foundation. Lady in shop said pat it over foundation tho Hmm?

Lady in the shop sounds deranged confused.

Surely you can't put it on over your make-up due the minor problem that it will wipe all make-up off??

I would put it on in between your moisturiser and your foundation.

Yes, agreed she may be bonkers. No 7 actually. She said 'pat' it on so it didn't wipe off; she said it's what 'we advise'.... Packaging says under make-up.

Definitely under. I put on spf45, then moisturiser that has some more, then make up. You want it directly against your skin to be most effective.

yes, but surely you need to reapply the suncream throughout the day? so you will have to put it over make-up as a result.

Under. Eucerin, La Roche Posay and Chanel do excellent ones - the last also acts as a decent primer.

I've lived in the tropics for several years and did not usually reapply. (Getting a good hat and staying in the shade is much more effective anyway.)

Now I live in sunny Italy and a base layer of one of the (minimum SPF 15) under liquid foundation seems to keep my very fair skin protected all day long.

Thanks all; under obv. Coco, if you sunbathe then yes, reapply. Otherwise not necessary it seems?

I agree with under, and find that if you arrange your morning routine so that you can apply spf then leave about 20 mins before make-up, that works best. I think you only need to reapply if you sweat a lot, and that would probably mean more make-up anyway!
