Festival Themed Wedding...Gah

MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 02/04/2012 17:09

DH and I are going to a festival themed wedding on a farm at the end of the month. Bride and Groom have said that they would like everyone to come in 'festival attire' which means that DH can't wear his trusty bespoke wedding suit (he's 6'6") and we are going to have to trawl the vintage shops (i.e. the one overpriced local vintage shop) for tweed/boating jacket/hat ensemble.

I have no idea what to wear. I am 5'4" and a size 14-16 which ensures that maxi dresses make me look like a lampshade. I was thinking of a 50's type dress but can't see how that's going to work with wellies (or would it?)

Everyone else works in arts/fashion and I just know that they will be wafting around in size 8 sodding Temperley and vintage 20's stuff. I would very much like to not look like a fat Bestival reject. Why do people have to do this? What's wrong with a normal wedding? God I sound fun, don't I.

Any ideas, S&B mavens?

Naked and covered with mud.

Or 70s Woodstock (which may be the same thing).

50s dress - was in the Sunday Times last week and Grazia before that; review says good for curves.

canyou · 02/04/2012 17:19

That dress is very pretty and a block heeled low shoe or flats would be lovely but as I will not wear flats may I suggest a platform style shoe

canyou · 02/04/2012 17:21

PRINT,size:14 This maybe

canyou · 02/04/2012 17:23

Thanks all, some good ideas there but as I am large of nork and small of waist, floaty things are probably best avoided.

ATM I am thinking of a Vivien of Holloway type dress with 50s hair and red lipstick. Not terribly festival I know and more fancy dress glam but I really cannot be doing with looking like a sack (albeit a sack with a pair of dented fairy wings).

Something from Hell Bunny could be a contender (one of the longer ones)

Ooohhh I assumed you would want something more mainstream. Those Hell Bunny dresses are Lush! the Yogi mini dress is fab, so is the Aki mini dress.
I like the Asuka swing dress and the Doris red polka dot one. And the Bobbilee... Grin

MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 02/04/2012 18:38

Calamityboo, I was dying to be invited to the sort of circus tent, haybales, DJ and fairy lights wedding you see in magazines and now that I have been it is something of an arse-ache, especially as they are looking for people to 'help clear up the next day' runs and hides

Those Hell Bunny dresses would defo work with wellies.

GoblersKnob · 02/04/2012 18:55

God, those hell bunny dresses are amazing.

If I ever get married I am having a festival camping do, would be fab.

HandMadeTail · 02/04/2012 18:59

God, Ambrosius, is that the actual dress that Abigail wore to her party?

Mombojombo · 02/04/2012 19:23

I don't know how quickly they can get their dresses out to you, but I adore Get Cutie - brilliant range of fabrics and cuts for curves. You'd totally outshine the Temperley crew!

Ambrosius · 02/04/2012 20:23

Which one??

Ambrosius · 02/04/2012 20:26
MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 02/04/2012 20:47

Ooh I love the Get Cutie dresses. If I could find fabric like that I think they'd be pretty easy to make - £155 is a bit out of my budget.

Sorry, Ambrosius, here, have a cheesy, pineappley thing. Wink

HettyKett · 02/04/2012 22:43

I adore that dress Envy. Think this is the fabric you mean.

Freshlettice · 02/04/2012 23:20

We had our wedding party (no stuffy sit-down stuff) in an old circus marquee in our field. Twas fab. Loads of people camped and we had a local mobile bar and daft old hippies old friends band.
I'm 50 and I wear short things with wellies for festie type parties, but usually a dress or similar, not skimpy shorts and vest . It's fine as long as you don't overdo the flesh showing and I have big norks too.
You need really flamboyant accessories though. Think mega beads and scarves, flowers and bees and butterflies in your hair, tutu and feathers.
