Tummy toning creams

Im looking for something to just improve the look of my tummy. Anything!
I've had two kids and with my first I went up to 16stone then back down to 11st and my second I went right up to 18stone and since last April I've been doing slimming world and I am now 12st but as you can imagine I have really horrible loose skin.
It's hard to describe, I don't have overhang (which I am very happy about) but my tummy looks like a deflated balloon. And I was wondering if there's any kind of cream that could help improve the look of it. I've heard of Mama Mio and Nip + Fab and I was just wondering if anyone had tried them.
I'd just like to add that I exercise every day, people keep saying 'Exercise to tone your tummy' but no amount of exercise will shift this and I can't afford a tummy tuck!

Mama Mio products are fab. I have used the Tummy Toner - which I think is now marketed as Skin Tight and had great results (also great for any saggy/untoned skin on thighs/bum area. I used it prior to having a tummy tuck. It wasnt a substitute for the tuck but it definitely improved skin tone. Even DH noticed a significant difference :)

On the bargainous side of things, Palmers Cocoa Butter did wonders for my stretch marked skin across the width of my pelvis/lower back, leaving my skin very soft and more even toned.

I used rodial, I think it made a little difference but belly is still very wrinkly and excess skin is only ever going to disappear if you chop it off!

cybbo · 01/04/2012 22:37

I dont think any creams work, sorry

Ambrosius · 01/04/2012 22:49

Exercise will eventually help a little. Mine is certainly better than it was, but its still fairly crinkly!

FrenchRuby · 03/04/2012 11:11

I exercise every day and it's just making the skin worse where I'm losing the weight :(
I'm using that palmers stuff at the moment. Im not bothered about stretch marks, mine are really pale, really deep, but pale. But there's a kind of gathering of skin at the bottom of my tummy, it's not overhang but it's like a 'W' shaped bunch of skin. I hate it so much. I think the only option is a tummy tuck for me which is sad because I'll never be able to afford one :(

I have the same, a wrinkly w shape, and pale but deep stretch marks. I don't really mind them so much. But the saggy bit makes me want to scream... realistically I don't think I'll ever afford a tummy tuck either :(
There is a laser treatment that allegedly helps, also expensive but cheaper than a tuck. I think its called mesotherapy?

Ambrosius · 03/04/2012 12:02

and the skin has tightened a little through exercise, after a year and a half .

FrenchRuby · 03/04/2012 12:32

I'll look into that! Thanks :)
There's so much I'd have done if I had the money haha!

I used Nivea firming cream after DD was born about 4 years ago and it really firmed up my thighs and tummy. I bought it again this time, but haven't had time to use it yet. It's quite good.

homebythesea · 03/04/2012 13:19

I'm sorry but a cream cannot fix excess / stretched skin. You must know this surely??

FrenchRuby · 03/04/2012 14:38

I didn't say fix, just help improve the look a bit.

Creams cannot tighten skin. Tummy tucks can.

FrenchRuby · 03/04/2012 19:41

Well looks like Im stuck with a horrible tummy forever then :(

At least you're not the only one ;)

Wink

So when these companies sell creams claiming to firm up the body, are they lying? Isn't that illegal?

Ambrosius · 03/04/2012 21:19

I think they have minimal and/or temporary effects, there is a lot to be said for massage which you obviously have to do to apply the cream/oil/whatever usually twice a day which is probably more often than you would massage anywhere usually. Massage increases blood supply to the area so there is more blood available for the skin and underlying tissues to heal themselves and regenerate.

ujjayi · 03/04/2012 21:31

Agree with Ambrosius that the effect is temporary but massage really helps the skin to regenerate by increasing blood supply. My feeling is that regular use of any moisturising lotion or oil will help as long as it has natural ingredients (mineral oils aren't absorbed by the skin). You won't ever get a miracle cure but saggy skin looks much better when moisturised than left to dry out.

Back to the Mama Mio products, I used the Bootcamp for Tummies and saw a real difference to that ?W? shape you?re talking about. It?s products and exercise combined which is why I feel it made more sense to me. Have a look ? a lot cheaper than a tummy tuck! www.mamamio.com/uk/body/bootcamp-for-tummies-skincare-and-exercise-system.html ;-)) xx

PerryCombover · 10/04/2012 09:57

Creams don't help.
We want them to but that is not the same as them helping.
Accept it and if you can't, get a tuck but save your money on daft mythical creams

Lots of creams and potions sold are truly nonsense as can be seen by any clinical evidence they use to support their claims
