Glue sniffer's chin

Help me with my rancid chin!

I get very persistent what-look-like-ordinary spots which scab over of their own accord (I've learned not to pick them) then last literally weeks, on my chin. The rest of my face ain't grand - giant pores AND flaky dryness - but I don't get these giant carbuncles anywhere else.

If I try to cover them I just look like I've stuck cornflakes to my face. It's not cold sores or impetigo. Anyone else have them? I imagine they're hormone related (I'm 6.5 months post partum, BF, so no periods yet), and probably also related to my rampant cake addiction.

What can I do to stop looking like I've been huffing the UHU?

Vitamin E cream at night as you're so dry would help, what about vitamin e capsules? You can also pop those open and use the oil direct on your skin if it's too bad. As they are scabbing it sounds like they are a result of dry skin rather than oily skin. Good luck :)

i think id nip to the gp and see if they can suggest anything, they might be able to give you something topical to apply that might stop them.

I'm menopausal and have suffered from hormonal acne for a while now - mostly on my chin.

What's been working for me is daily usage of Boots Witch Hazel and Tea Tree exfoliator (morning shower) and cleansing with WH & TT cleanser/toner each evening. I then moisturise as normal after that.

They're not gone and it doesn't stop the spots, but they are noticeably smaller (less like carbuncles!) and last for much less time.

To me this sounds like a form of perioral dermatitis as this normally appears around the mouth and on the chin area.It doesn't sound like acne.Google some pics of this to see if it looks like your chin.I know it's advised to avoid cleansers with sulphates if you do have perioral dermatitis and be very gentle with your skin.Best to go to a Doc tho to make sure

You need to see a GP. I think you're in a cycle of infection and hormoans. BIWI's links are excellent in the meantime - I really rate WH & TT.

I would firstly google perioral dermatitis - as mrsfarrell suggests. I get that now and again - it started when I was pg. It can be hormone induced. Treatment - after years of gp trying to figure it out - was a trip to derm - and 3 months supply of lymecyline. (don't know if you can use it if BF though). I can always feel it coming on - intense itching - then a redness with teeny blisters- which pop on their own, but the redness stays -and more blisters form. It is (to me) quite obviously different to regular spots.

If it isn't that - and is just regular acne - on chin is prime place for hormone based acne - GP will be able to prescribe something.

I dn't think that face washes and over the counter shit really works if it is persistent like yours sounds to be.

BIWI · 29/03/2012 11:53

over the counter shit? Hmm

I recommended those because they have worked for me and it would seem that I am suffering something very similar to the OP

BIWI My apologies - I wasn't disputing your recommendations.

All I meant was that from personal experience - serious skin conditions don't often respond to simple solutions.
