Jeans - the ultimate problem???!

SilverLining · 27/03/2012 19:39

I'm on the hunt for jeans - trying to lose some weight and getting there slowly.... But my favourite straight leg jeans have finally given up the ghost and I need to replace! I'm hoping it'll be temporary and will be going down sizes in the next few months!

I'm still an 18 (long way to go!) but am 5' 8" so do have height on my side! My tummy is a definite problem area and need to deal with that so jeans don't hang below it like maternity trousers!!! Also I prefer straighter leg than a huge boot cut. I have been wearing Dorothy Perkins jeggings which fit pretty well so perhaps its worth trying their jeans??

I'm just wondering if there is some perfect pair out there....???

Or perhaps not.....

Thanks in advance!

Jeans can be perfect for one person and not another so the only thing to do is to try loads on.

SilverLining · 27/03/2012 19:45

OK - I think you're probably right.....! Thanks!!!

Sorry it wasn't actually very helpful but I think it is the only way to get a good fitting pair!

SilverLining · 27/03/2012 20:20

No it was helpful!! Confirming what I thought & that there isn't a magic wand to find me the dream jeans!!!!!!

Jeans are a bloody nightmare but Ive found that whenever I buy new jeans I have to shop around as even if I go back to the shop I last brought a pair then the retailer have changed their cut or my body shape has changed. Bizarrely the last time I went I tried ones on in Gap, Topshop and M&S but the ones that fitted me really well were Primark.

Asda Great Bum Jeans Cheap as chips, generous around the high rise waist so no overspill, and the denim and fit are surprisingly good for a cheap temperary measure.

mosschops30 · 27/03/2012 21:32

I have recently found Gap jeans, lots of choice and waist and leg sizes

CuttedUpPear · 27/03/2012 21:39

Another vote for the Asda Great Bum jeans. I'm a 8-10 with a 29" waist, 5'6".
They have a bit of stretch and come in a straight leg style as well as others. Finally I have stopped feeling like an old frump yet am not mutton dressed as lamb.

Let us know how you get on!

SilverLining · 28/03/2012 20:33

Thanks everyone - I'm onto it! Will see how I get on but thanks v much for all suggestions!

Why not the quality that never goes out of style, Levi's.

HavingAnOffDAy · 29/03/2012 09:42

Hi

I hate buying jeans as I'm quite short with curves but I recently went to John Lewis and asked one of their assistants to help me - who'd have known they have a 'jeans expert'? Shock

The lady I saw was really helpful, totally knew her stuff & sent me away with a gorgeous pair that fit perfectly.

It might be worth you doing the same?

southeastastra · 29/03/2012 09:44

i like gap 1969 real straight, try those!

supernannyisace · 29/03/2012 11:35

I just bought gap real straight too.

I find jeans shopping a real PITA. I am tall - so leg lenght is always an issue. I have hips, but a small ish waist.

All you can do is put aside a half day and tryon as many as you can.

Like the sound of John Lewis' jeans expert though!!

karibuchum · 29/03/2012 11:52

Hi Silverlining - I am exactly the same and have never got jeans that don't bulge at the crotch - looking absolutely hideous. If you do find something - please please let me know as I am quite desperate to get good jeans

helterskelter99 · 29/03/2012 12:12

At 5'8 how long are your legs? Mine are 34" which limits choice further but
New Look always have a good range of style and leg lengths in their bigger stores
Top Shop ditto
Next as well - although I think in their catalogue they have a better range

M&S straight leg jeans. Am on phone so Don't know if link will work. They are £12.50 sit just below/on your belly button. Are straight but not too skinny and fit really well. Am size 16 and they look good, and the reviews are brilliant too

I've found Dorothy Perkins jeans to be great value - just got two pairs in salr for a tenner ech. Lovely soft denim with a bit of stretch and high enough waisted to be supportive. Ang long - I'm 5'11"

daimbardiva · 29/03/2012 23:00

Oh god, I've just noticed how many typos I had in my last post...apologies, ladies, bloody phone...!

chipmunksex · 29/03/2012 23:07

Sainsbury jeans are surprisingly well fitting. They do a straight leg style.

SilverLining · 31/03/2012 18:45

Oh thanks everyone! I'm away now for Easter and not really in a position to spend the time I need to trying on but will be doing all your suggestions as soon as possible! Thanks so much!!!! (particularly interested in the JL Jeans expert - I could be a challenge too far for her!!!!!)
