I recently spent quite a bit on clothing, got a lit of stuff from Wallis, which has turned to be completely shite, appalling quality and I spent quite a bit of money ( for me).

So, where can I get fairly decent stuff at a good price. I'm a size 16 and a SAHM, so dont need work type stuff. TIA.

I have found Dorothy Perkins surprisingly ok.

I think being selective within a store rather than a specific brand seems to be the way to go these days. H&M, Top Shop, Zara and Dorothy Perkins are all stores that have some decent quality stuff but it takes some sorting through a lot of cheap-looking polyester to get to it sometimes!

Violetgirl · 27/03/2012 10:51

I have always found H&M to be suprisingly good quality, cheap as chips too. New Look is actually great for cotton summer dresses (especially maxi), and I'm a big Asos fan. Good luck!

MissFoodie · 27/03/2012 10:53

I would have said Wallis is cheap - the key thing with high street is to avoid synthetic fabric;

H&M/Zara/M&S is prob your best bet

noddyholder · 27/03/2012 10:55

Better to buy second hand top quality on ebay than new tat from the high street!

MissFoodie · 27/03/2012 11:17

good thinking, I've got loads of good bargains on ebay

JuliaScurr · 27/03/2012 11:21

Charity shops

KandyBarr · 27/03/2012 11:56

What noddy said. If you bid on brand new or worn once items by brands in a size you know fits you, you should rarely go wrong.

In the last six weeks I've bagged myself an unworn MaxMara blazer (£20); Whistles trousers (£15); silk Jigsaw parka (£19); Jigsaw jacket (£20) - all great condition, all fit, all I would have coveted full-price - but all cheaper than Wallis.

I agree with the above High Street stores like New Look and Dorothy Perkins are fairly cheap. I think in terms of quality you can't go wrong with Topshop. I've recently started looking online a bit more and i've found that www.bravesoul.co.uk is really cheap and the clothing I ordered was good quality. I also like www.asos.com because there are many clothing brands all in one place, could spend hours on that website!

StellaAndFries · 27/03/2012 13:06

I have had a complete wardrobe overhall mainly buying from eBay or Facebook selling sites. It's been cheap and i'm getting very good quality clothes .

mrsebojones · 27/03/2012 13:29

Agree with others that you need to shop about the high street a bit and have an eagle eye!
Topshop is good for basics like vests, cotton tops, denim
M&S good for basic undies, swimwear, T-shirts - try Limited collection for more fashionable Ts, skirts, trousers and knits
Next again for basics like Ts and cotton dresses
Dorothy Perkins has some good cotton cardigans at the moment and decent chino type trousers

pollyblue · 27/03/2012 13:33

For undies I like M&S, t-shirts/vests Uniqlo, shirts/tops H&M, jeans Next.

I love Top Shop but find their stuff a bit pricey so usually buy bits on Ebay. Once you know your size in a particular brand, Ebay can be a goldmine.

Mabelface · 27/03/2012 13:56

Agree with charity shops, especially if you take a trip out to more affluent areas. I pretty much clothe all 6 of us from them, and we all look smart.

CJ2010 · 27/03/2012 14:10

I think M & S has really gone downhill in the last few years, poor selection and terrible quality.

I've never tried E bay so will give that a go.

I too am a SAHM so don't buy work clothes.
I buy a fair amount of clothes from TU at Sainsburys.
Majority of stuff is pretty good quality, also as it is not really expensive, I don't mind if it gets stained.

GoingToBedfordshire · 27/03/2012 14:21

Uniqlo is good for tshirts, jeans and chino type trousers. Am also SAHM and I have a few things from there that have lasted well despite my children's best attempts to wreck them.

CJ2010 · 27/03/2012 14:38

The DC's destroy my clothes! Food, snot, puke! DD wipes her hands on me, once she has finished eating! Grin
