Wedding outfit (& I am the bride!)

OK, your challenge for Fri afternoon...
I'm getting married in 8 wks and have to buy an outfit. Me & dp are both 2nd timers so v low key. But I still want to look fab - just not bridal.
I thought a trouser suit because I never wear dresses - any ideas what/colours/where to buy/how to accessorise? (preferably so it doesn't look like I am the registrar!)
(BTW I'm 5'7", 12st, not bad nick on top half but decidedly untoned abs & big of hip...)

Personal shopper, personal shopper, personal shopper! Plus wash and blow dry on the day (NOT new hairstyle and DEFINITELY not new colour) and beautiful and lovely hair ornament of some kind. You are young so you can do what you like with clothes as long as they suit your shape.

If you don't like shopping and you want to look beautiful, definitely book the personal shopper. Apart from anything else, it is a nice experience - your own private space, tea and coffee and wine if you want. All the things you deserve as the bride

Take care with washing hair on the day though... might be too slippery for any ornament to stay in.

SoupDragon · 03/02/2006 16:19

Every timeI see those signs for personal shoppers I promise myself I'll give it a go one day. And I never find the time!

I never ever feel remotely attractive unless my hair is clean though! and a good hairdresser can fix your hair so any ornament will stay in. Though really shiny swingy hair is an ornament in itself, of course.

quickbrownfox · 03/02/2006 16:22

yes soupy why dont you go next week then?

doggiesayswoof · 03/02/2006 16:31

Hair is getting cut & coloured 4 wks beforehand and just blowdried on the day. Not thought about hairthings - something simple I think. Nail colour suggestions?
I've got a lovely nude pink with a goldy sheen to it - but is nail colour out just now?

Someone has just recommended personal shoppers at John Lewis. I'm a fan of JL and like coast stuff so I might have a look there.

I was thinking warm chestnutty brown boots with a v slim ankle and a spiky heel.

am beginning to doubt the boots idea though.

MrsBadger · 03/02/2006 16:44

personally I say nude nails - if rings are involved there will be lots of pics taken of your hands.
Some colours go weird under daylight / flash and look a bit freaky (tested loads before my wedding and ended up buffing but not varnishing - looked great)

SoupDragon · 03/02/2006 16:46

French manicure?

doggiesayswoof · 03/02/2006 17:01

I'm off home (yes I have been working as well, honest) and will let you know how I get on at the shops. I can feel the credit card groaning already

i say book the wedding (or have you already done so?) for mid afternoon and spend ages in the morning with hair appt and nail appts

would also recommend a spray tan (sounds naff but its not) to give you a glow and make you feel even more gorgeous

nailpolish · 03/02/2006 17:17

french manicure definitely - hands and feet!

Go to John Lewis personal shopping. do NOT spend any money beforehand!!!
