I went in to Marks and Spencer today - oh dear lord

I have never seen such a pile of hideousness!

Some sort of red patterned leggings next to bright lime skirt made out of old sofa. A wooly tunic that would make anybody look 9 months pregnant. Horrible shoes. Garish and unpleasant swimming costumes. Black blazer type thing with really shiny buttons. It was all horrible.

I did get a new pair of pjs and a casual top but mostly I walked round going ugh. Didn't even venture near the nightmare that is Per Una.

It's vile. I went in today and the ONLY things I liked/was tempted by in the entire shop were a plain navy t-shirt and some daffodils. Not even the food inspired me.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/03/2012 15:18

You could always buy something like knickers/vests/leggings Dances.

PerryCombover · 25/03/2012 15:35

per una is now the norm store wide
my maw bought this the other day and I was surprised that I didn't vomit

Panzee · 25/03/2012 15:41

LucyManga I was in Next this morning and they had the same shoes. I was trying to find the words to describe, but "granny shoes with stripper heels" is exactly the look!

Danceswithdragons · 25/03/2012 15:47

Undies! That's a good idea! I'm sure that M&S undies are still reliable Smile

reinventing · 25/03/2012 15:53

Who designs these clothes? Would they wear this stuff themselves?

TheMonster · 25/03/2012 15:57

that yellow skirt has a zip all the way down the back. Strange.

polyhymnia · 25/03/2012 16:02

Agree with all this. As for food, OK for fruit and veg but mostly loads of bland ready meals.

What I want to know is: what happened to Autograph Weekend?? Have bought a few tunics and sweaters there in past which were good basic pieces and - unlike rest of store - based on a 'less is more' approach.

But now even this last refuge has apparently been removed and the line dropped, leaving only the main Autograph one.

MsNorbury · 25/03/2012 16:19

i LOVE autograph suede platform wedges

are lovely. ALso their bags are nice ( if you like brown, which i dont)
LOVE their brazilian non vpl pants
LLIke pyjamas - although tops always shrink, you need to use old t shirt.
LOVE limited quite often, got two ace tops from there at xmas - emerald green, keyhole back, sheer long sleeves - has been ace buy

MsNorbury · 25/03/2012 16:21

ooh here it is

MsNorbury · 25/03/2012 16:21

these beauties LOVE

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 25/03/2012 16:25

The only decent stuff in M&S is Autograph, prefereably in a large store like Camberly or Marble Arch.

The shoes are particularly vile.

Mind you Next is no better any more, but I think I have to just accept I am too old for Next. Did someone on here say Next was in trouble? It has gone very downmarket compared to when it started.

tribpot · 25/03/2012 16:26

I quite like the Star Wars cardigan, but then I do want to be an extra in Star Wars.

PerryCombover · 25/03/2012 18:00

norbury

i have that top... lovely and much admired as something expensive
got some great stripped pj bottoms agreed

MsNorbury · 25/03/2012 18:45

I got the blue one too but green is way nicer. The back does slip a little bit but is great for winter soirees.
Wear with vintage marks spiky shoe boots ( suede)

Emo76 · 25/03/2012 20:34

very very speziale...

FoxPass · 25/03/2012 20:45

warmandwooly that blue coat/waistcoat monstrosity needs to be killed with fire! Shock

drywhiteplease · 25/03/2012 20:50

Oh goody another "m and s is rubbish " thread...I was on one last night about their styling online. How do they stay open?

akaemmafrost · 25/03/2012 20:51

Everything in there reminds me of those "slacks" you can purchase by post on the back of Sunday paper magazine supplements. Obviously they don't LOOK the same but just that feeling of past it sensibleness. There is not a garment in there I would wear and even the undies are not so hot these days. Fact.

balia · 25/03/2012 20:57

Thank you - have checked every one of these links thinking I would be disappointed by one of them - Fabulous. Almost as good as that cheesy jokes thread from the other day. But I think the bondage zip meets acid lemon funk meets lace for the ladees skirt is the winner.

FoxPass · 25/03/2012 21:06

Speziale slouch knitted vest top, bit of an oxymoron there! :o

Northernlurker · 25/03/2012 21:07

I agree about Autograph Weekend. I also have some good basics from there, what a shame they've ditched it.

bunionscomingsoon · 25/03/2012 21:36

OMG -- would anyone have paid £69 for that???!! hideous!!! they have lost the plot !!

YouBrokeMySmoulder · 25/03/2012 22:31

I am still confused by this and think it very much depends on your branch - my local one where I live is hopeless but the one near my work in the City very good - especially the boots.
