Eyelash extension disaster!

5babyangels · 23/03/2012 16:47

About 14 months ago I got eyelash extensions put in professionally, well I thought so anyway. She used too much glue and basically all eyelashes were glued together leaving me as they fell out very bald clumps.

I went somewhere far better for a while for infills and they looked ok, but decided to just ditch the whole idea after a while as was concerned about longterm problems. I knew it would take a while but they've never grown back as long or as thick. Have tried Vaseline but dont like greasy eyes. Any ideas???

I bought some Rapid Lash serum last year in December last year after reading this thread and it definitely works. After 8 weeks my eyelashes were much longer, although only some. Science bit: hairs are in one of three stages, a growing phase, a resting phase and a falling out phase. All hairs are at different stages so they don't all fall out together. Therefore only the growing hairs grow longer.

Mine grew so much they looked a bit like spiders legs, so I decided to get an eyelash perm. Although they looked pretty when they were done, its a bugger to get mascara on and they looked a lot shorter, I preferred the spider leg look!

I use Lash Accelerator by L'Oreal. It's just mascara with lash enhancer in it. It definitely improves thickness, but without adding an extra step.

Dollydowser · 23/03/2012 19:16

I've also bought some mascara recommended on a thread, Terrybly by Terry which also has enhancer in it.

5babyangels · 23/03/2012 20:14

Now enhancer sounds far more practical! Spider eyes here I come! How long before you notice a difference? Blush

About 6-8 weeks.

Another vote for rapidlash here. Not cheap but it works

5babyangels · 24/03/2012 15:59

Can you get rapidlash from a big boots?

Yes i got it there, mine are lovely now.I had extentions but didnt like them nd cant be doing with all the upkeep. I never thought it would work though but suddenly after about 8 weeks they are massive.I have to use a god volumising mascara cos it only added the the length of mine.

5babyangels · 24/03/2012 16:24

Well that definitely sounds like a plan Smile

Rapid lash is AMAZING

MsNorbury · 24/03/2012 16:37

I didn't like lash extensions at all itchy and weird. Rapidlash gets GASPS of amazement. Still use lancome doll eyes mascara.

5babyangels · 24/03/2012 16:58

Thanks for all the tips! I'm mightily relieved to know all is not lost! Just wish I'd posted a year ago! Blush

I had a similar eyelash extension drama, and have been using lilash, my eyelashes have all grown back and are starting to look slightly better than before actually...

used2bthin · 25/03/2012 19:42

Oh no I was going to get this done for my wedding-my lashes are too short to get them curled! Is it not worth it? It is a lot of money. Have only two weeks to go though so no time for rapidlash though will def be buying some.

5babyangels · 25/03/2012 22:26

I'm getting married in 4 weeks too so although rapidlash is in my emergency purchase list, I will get some good quality false ones. Never again will I risk bald patches. Grin

I do know some people who've had great experience with them, but they are very high maintenance and v expensive. For me it's a never again situation! I think I started up with a bad set so that didn't help.

LolaAnn · 25/03/2012 23:10

You need to get the very expensive, individual false lashes. Go to somewhere good and it should be fine, I know loads of people who have them done and it looks FAB. But stress going somewhere reputable and expect it to be pricey. Do not, do not get the ones that look like little clumps of 3 lashes stuck together.

Most people recommend using lilash/rapidlash when you have got the extensions glued on so that when they fall off eventually your lashes will be gorgeous underneath!

used2bthin · 25/03/2012 23:22

Sounds really awful, I don't blame you for being put off! I was going to the village salon for them but its still £70 is that cheap? Think I will have a look online to see where else does them or false lash application as am rubbish at that myself.

5babyangels · 26/03/2012 06:07

I would say that is too cheap. As that's about what I paid. I only went to the beautician I did as I'd been going there for other things for years. If you really want them, type eyelashes and your area into google, you'll probably get a better finish. When I went to tunbridge wells to have mine repaired, starting price for full set was £150. Then infills £35/40 depending on how many lashes had fallen out. I was always in complete panic when they fell out on the pillow. It's not for me but if you go for it then make sure you use a real expert, not just a beautician that does it once a fortnight!

I did have individual lashes put on she showed me the packet, that were a good brand, but she used too much glue, more one side than the other. So that's why I say make sure you get someone who does it day in day out and also someone who has their own. My lady didn't! No better advertisement than your own now is there. Infills were needed every 2 weeks for me as when they started to fall out bald clumps were hideous. This was too expensive for me on top of nails! And after a while I just found them so dam itchy and crunchy it was driving me insane! Blush

5babyangels thanks, good advice. I went into a brow and lashes place today which a friend recommended 9she has threading done there though which is why I was there)I noticed they do temporary false lashes-this is different to extensions isn't it? They last two weeks if you have the full set or individual ones last a few days.

Very cheap which has worried me but this is different to extensions isn't it? They were just false lashes they just do it for you-I am rubbish at it so can't do it myself but it seems a safer option to extensions I THINK?! She said the reason they only last a few days was because its a different type of glue to the ones that last two weeks.

Am definately not going for the £70 ones at the local salon after reading this, that sounds awful for you!

5babyangels · 26/03/2012 22:58

If you've gone somewhere that does it all the time you'll be fine! WinkWink (that's a pair of fluttery eyelashes) ooo I was going to attempt doing it myself with a bit of fakery but not sure now! Blush

OP posts:
5babyangels · 26/03/2012 23:00

I might investigate that too then.....but I'm telling you now I want to see the tube of glue! Blush if I end up on the wedding morning with eyes glued together I will kill everybody in my wake! Smile

OP posts:
used2bthin · 26/03/2012 23:05

Oh I don't blame you! I will be asking questions about glue after hearing your experience! Good luck with it all! Am hoping my lovely lashes distract from my ever increasing 7month bump!

hellymelly · 26/03/2012 23:09

Does rapid lash have the eye colour change risk? I want to try it but am worried about my green eyes going brown.
