Hmph.

So I'm 38 years old, 5'6" and 9.5 stone.

Over the past couple of years my arms have become hideous! They are cellulitey and flabby to the point where they embarrass me.

Today I have been going through my clothes to see I I can fit into my pre DD things once more and alleluia I can! Great, but all the lovely halterneck dresses and short sleeved tops look vile because of my horrible upper-limbs.

Sooooo...does anybody please, please, please have any hints/tips/exercises I can do to sort my arms out?

Callanetics?

DukesOfTripHazard · 23/03/2012 15:57

tracey anderson has an arms workout that's v good. No time to look now soz. Google that hth

MooMinCow · 23/03/2012 16:42

yes to Tracy Anderson (her standing weight free arm exercises kill but do the trick), tricep dips are good to do also.

Dry body brushing is good for cellulite, as well as regular exfoliating with scrub, loofah whatever and you must absolutely moisturise every day.

TangerinePuppet · 23/03/2012 19:41

Cheers! I must de-wobble these arms by Summer!

Tracy Anderson is annoying but her arm exercises are AMAZING. I'm currently pregnant so can't do the rest of her DVD but I'm doing her arm exercises so at least when I'm whale-like my arms will be (as she would put it) 'teeny tiny.'

Eclairwaldorf · 23/03/2012 20:40

Marking my spot to remind me to google Tracy!

winefairy · 24/03/2012 10:18

I came on to suggest Tracy Anderson and her 'teeny tiny' arms too. She's quite pouty and suggestive which I used to find irritating but you get used to it. I find it helps to pout back and dance like a stripper.

Does work though. And both the arm exercises are short (although excruciating).

cornsilksit1 · 24/03/2012 10:23

this is very good for arms. I've being doing body pump/weights for about 10 years now and I find this challenging. I do it with 3k weights but a 2k weight would get your arms in shape very quickly with this I think.

cornsilksit1 · 24/03/2012 10:24

which is the best tracey anderson DVD for arms?

winefairy · 24/03/2012 10:32

The one I linked to, cornsilk. It's the Mat Method one and it contains two sections for arms....one with weights, one without.

Do not buy the plain old Method one or you will be subjected to 50 mins of Tracy whirling like a dervish and calling it dance cardio. It's unfollowable. And it gave me a migraine.

coffeeinbed · 24/03/2012 10:34

One more vote for Tracy Anderson.
It's the mat workout.

cornsilksit1 · 24/03/2012 10:36

bought with one click Grin

MsNorbury · 24/03/2012 10:43

Oh my god BODY PUMP. The best gum
Class. Is national franchise. They do it everywhere. no dancing or jumping. Just weights.

winefairy · 24/03/2012 12:28

Prepare yourself for 'beautiful ballerina arms' then, cornsilk Grin

cornsilksit1 · 24/03/2012 12:36

can't wait Grin just a shame that I actually have to do the DVD to get them!

Mrsrobertduvall · 24/03/2012 12:39

Definitely weights.
I use 7.5 kg weights and now have lovely toned arms (and I am in my fifties)

Drink more water!
I say this to just about every post I respond to, but it's true that most people walk round in a permanent state of dehydration, and it's so easy to just drink more (esp for me, up North where the water is DELICIOUS straight from the tap!)
The trick to doing any toning activity is to squeeze the muscle you are working. Imagine a bicep curl with a biro. Obv, a biro is a tiny weight, so only a few of the muscle fibres in the bicep will fire as you lift. Whatever weight you use, you will not be lifting enough to fire every fibre. SQUEEZE the muscle as you lift your biro, (I use the visualisation that I am rescuing two children from sinking sand as I curl up) and you will find that you can't do too many biro bicep curls!
So the same applies to your triceps (do work the bi's and tri's, not just the tri's though) It's all about the squeeze. Tricep dips, tricep kickback, press ups (esp narrow grip pressups) tricep extension with a resistance band are all good. I'm sure youtube will have plenty videos of these exercises.

MsNorbury · 24/03/2012 16:31

Yes. Body pump I use 7.5 on back. Wimpy 2.5 on shoulders though.

ujjayi · 24/03/2012 18:40

Ashtanga yoga. Bloody fabulous for upper body, arms and core strength. You won't end up with arms like Madonna either, I promise. Ashtanga Yoga is fab because the breathing exercises and constant movement keeps your lymph system pumping too so is particularly beneficial for cellulite issues.

cybbo · 25/03/2012 17:24

I agree with body pump

I'm aching all over from yesterdays class, can feel every muscle

MrsSnow · 25/03/2012 17:34

My suggestion would be couch to 5k. My arms have flabby upper arms have reduced a lot and are already looking more toned than previously.

TracyK · 25/03/2012 18:04

And get some fake tan on.

KarmaK · 25/03/2012 18:44

It's a little known fact but if you take the herb Gotu Kola any cellulite just vanishes from your body. Google it.
