searching for the holy grail- flat shoes that are both nice and comfy. french sole ballet shoes get talked about a lot on here, but are ££££. are they worth it? do they last? how thin are the soles- will i feel every small stone on the ground through them?

I sold mine on ebay! They come up very very small- I sized up 1 size and should have gone up 2.

The soles are thin yes. But they do have different styles with different soles.

I think most people buy them because they have ahuge rnage of colours etc.

They are- in general- not a walking shoe- they are flimsy unless you go for their chunkier styles.

I am now looking at Geox who do ballet shoes but more substantial- but they are £99!

They are lovely but I saw some in primark the other day that looked v similar and according to one of the posters on here they are v comfy too so am off to get the orange ones today! Have had french sole too and they are paper thin soled but not really for long wear iygwim.

thanks- think i will avoid then as i don't want to spend that amount of money and not really be able to walk in them (which is surely the point of ballet shoes- if i wanted shoes i couldn't walk in, i'd buy heels!).

Mine have adequate soles, as hard wearing as other ballet flats. They have a nicer shape than some of the cheaper alternatives too. Comfort might depend on the style you choose; my 'standard' style were more comfortable than my low rise pair.
Pretty Ballerinas or Repetto are also very nice.

Agree they come up small, and posibly more than just one size.

Low cut not low rise (I must have been thinking of jeans Blush)

I really rate Blochs. I've spent loads on cheaper versions but always go to my Blochs because they're so much more comfortable.

I think that in principle, ballet flats are not really for walking miles anyway. very young girls seem to but I am not sure how.

They have little support and they are genreally bad for the feet- thre have been several articles about this from podiatrists- they rarely stay on unless you buy a size smaller or curl your toes, and they offer no support at all for your foot.

If you canget to the FS shop have alook at their "sturdy" range which is more substantial, but I'd never wear them for an all day shopping trip in a city for example.

These from dune are unbelievably comfy www.dune.co.uk/mobile/belmont-d-ballerina-bow-pump-prodbelmontd10black/
I have them in 5 colours as they have brought new ones every past few seasons. They are very soft leather and the nearest thing I've found as comfy as Tods at a sixth of the price.

thanks for the tips everyone, will check out those dune ones, they look nice. can't get to the fs shop unfortunately. will also check out the other recommenations, thanks.
