I have my first interview after 18 years on Tuesday. (Last worked a year ago but had the same job for a LONG time). What do I wear? Do I go out and buy a black suit, or can I wear trousers, white shirt, black V neck and accessories? Its for a local London Letting agents company. Black suit says smart, but boring? or trousers say not trying hard enough to be smart? Can you savvy mners help me please?

So what are you thinking of wearing VVVQV?

Depends how smart you would be as staff.

For jobs which don't require a suit day to day then i would go with smart trousers and v neck or shirt. But if the staff are all likely to be suited and booted i think you better match up.

In fact a letting agency - yes i would guess a suit would be the preferred option.

Medical secretary/GP receptionis type thing.

Oh, right. Was yours the thread asking for advice earlier on testing? Good luck! Yours sounds like a suit job, Is it?

Depends what the agency is like - is it quite traditional or a bit more funky? What do the other staff wear? Do you have the opportunity to go and take a peek? A website may even give you a few clues.

You can't really go too wrong with trousers/smart top or suit. If the company is a bit more funky, perhaps add an interesting coloured top, necklace or shoes.

I got a job once partly because I wore a bright red jacket - afterwards I was told it made me stand out a bit more from others in top to toe black.

Good luck!

Can you find out what their dress code is? Then go for something a bit smarter. Will the interviewer be male or female? If male, then they may not pay too much attention to what you wear.
