I'm bored of my lack of style

Help me find a new style please? I live in jeans and tee shirts, or plain jane 'nice' tops along with short sleeved jumpers combined with long sleeved shirts. Don't have accessories and don't really do them and I need a style that's simple enough for crawling around the floor and general kids bits (I am a nanny). I also need some nicer bits for casual going out and dressed up going out should I ever get a social life! Grin

Where do I start? I'm too comfortable with my current 'style'.

Season I'm an autumn, but have v odd skin tone, quite hard to analyse. I was mis-analysed as a spring some years ago (am quite bright and high contrast for an autumn, but it's definitely where I sit best).

My casual clothes consist mainly of skinny jeans like j brand Agnes (with zips at the pockets and bottom) or coloured skinnies, slash necked cashmere jumpers, racer back vests, boyfriend cardigans, lots of leather wrap bracelets, big drapey scarves, leather jacket. I am still attempting to master the whole belt thing, as instructed by my consultant. Smile

You know what, I don't care what blogs are called as long as they give me ideas and keep me current .go coco I love the blog!

Lozislovely · 22/03/2012 20:09

Thanks coco Grin

I'm such a whimp when it comes to trying anything new but I have set myself a goal to go late night shopping (when it's less busy) and just try on stuff I wouldn't normally go for just to see what I look like!

The dresses turned up from Next today but they were hideous and swiftly taken back to Next this evening. Ds2 came with me and I was moaning what I mess I look and even he tried to pick out some brighter stuff I might like, bless!!!!

Dollydowser · 23/03/2012 07:34

Agree with the off putting mama stuff, it sounds very American. And while I am a mum, its by no means my defining feature.

SeasonOfTheWitch · 23/03/2012 08:33

hopefully they love a belt Hoc, don't they? Grin

it's actually been a revelation and really opened up different styles and shapes for me. i used to discount certain tops on the basis they made me look wide whereas i can now wear them (not the actual same ones since my wardrobe has been decimated post style/drape obv!) as long as i wear a belt to define my waist.

were you misdiagnosed by cmb? must be infuriating. i think i would sue!

OP where are youuuuu?

cocomama · 23/03/2012 08:39

Thank you for the feedback. I prefer it to other terms and it's just a heading after all! my purpose was to inspire mums, mummies, mamas or women who happen to have children so I use a term that relates to that. Again I apologise if this is seen as offensive it's just a lighthearted term. It's about the style not the name! And as it's personal the words I use throughout reflect me and my personality.
Can we talk about supporting Lozislovely now?! ;-)

Hopefully · 23/03/2012 09:08

Season yup, misdiagnosis was by CMB. Luckily I didn't buy absolutely loads and kind of self limited to colours which are also ok on an autumn - coral, navy (not an autumn colour but fine on me), some greens and teals.

Apologies for hijack, OP.

Justfeckingdoit · 23/03/2012 09:14

cocomama great blog, and this from someone that hates with a passion all things yummy mummy and mama, despite being one 100 percent.

Am in denial.

dingdong3 · 23/03/2012 09:16

coco you stick to your branding - you can't please all of the people all of the time. I'm a mum and I honestly never once thought about the mama thing being an issue!

Lozislovely · 23/03/2012 14:19

Coco - I took a small step to new ideas today and tried on a pair of Reiss denim leggings. They definitely weren't jeggings more like skinnies but with an elasticised waist.

I was actually quite pleased with how they looked but walked away without getting them as they were £80. Sitting at my desk now thinking I should have just got them, especially given the almost summery weather.

The main thing that put me off other than the cost was that I couldn't find a long tunic style top to go with them and having already been out of the office for an hour I had to get back!!!

laptopdancer · 23/03/2012 14:22

lozislovely look at boden online...loads tunics that I wear with skinnies. Maybe pricey but worth it

drywhiteplease · 23/03/2012 15:25

I'm going to start a blog called "teenpsychomama" just to piss mrsn off. (sometimes that's what I am....be warned mothers of cute little babies!)

Let's leave cocomama alone and get back to getting op some style!

dingdong3 · 23/03/2012 15:38

I was well relieved that she didn't hit on my blog! Kudos to coco for handling it so well. I would have gone off and cried a bit.
Sorry OP...have we been any help to you at all in-between the critique of coco's lovely blog? :)
ps laptop no mention of babies on School Gate Style...I blog to get away from them Grin

laptopdancer · 23/03/2012 16:41

I love school gate style :)

I love all of them :)

katfashion · 23/03/2012 16:49

If you're bored of jeans how about some coloured chinos. They're a big trend for s/s.
New Look have quite a few in different colours. They are cropped in length so you can wear them with flats or sandals for the day or dress them up for a night out with a pair of wedges or heels, an interest top (Zara have loads) and a jacket.
Also how about some dresses. Again New Look have some great jersey striped dresses or coloured dresses with a dipped hem that would look great with sandals or converse, or wedges for a dressy look, team it with a denim jacket for the day and a smarter jacket for the evening.

drywhiteplease · 23/03/2012 16:52

Grin dingdong

Now back to skinny jeans....yes
Longline tummy and bum coverage...yes
Ballerinas, flat gladiator ish type sandals....yes
Blazers ........yes
A lighter weight trenchy coat...yes
Scarves, scarves, scarves ( still sobbing about warehouse butterfly sold out disappointment)
A little dress (tea, jersey etc) that can be dressed up or down
A lovely leather bag....maybe tan (nice one on a post in debenhams the other day)

OP there you go...now go shopping!!

confusedpixie · 24/03/2012 09:13

followed you on twitter this morning dingdong ;)

welovesastickerbook · 24/03/2012 10:15

I like wearing jeans but have not got 1 comfortable pair, all jeans in the shops seem to be low waist. I found a pair of high waist in m&s but the zipper keeps falling down! Im going to take a look in gap. I wear leggings a lot & would like a few longer tops for change & to update look, my wardrobe is a mish mash of patterns & tat. A few nice dresses but i dont wear them much, they look ok but like to have a tan!

dingdong3 · 24/03/2012 12:09

Thanks laptopdancer That's you entered in the competition then :)

weloveasticker what on earth is is about jeans zips that fall down?? I seriously have 4 pairs that fit me fine but the zips fall down constantly...how difficult could it be to put a zip that works on them??
