Don't like foundation but could probably do with some

I've always hated foundation, especially the feeling of having "coated" skin, and the way the makeup seems to come off on everything.

But these days my skin is looking a bit rubbish and it would be nice to use something to make it a more even tone, less shiny and pallid. A bit of pressed powder isn't really doing the trick, given how bad I look in most photos now.

I am very prone to blocked pores and my skin is still slightly oily, though much less so than it was in my 20s. I am pale but with a lot of pink tones.

Are there particular types I should look for?

I don't like feeling caked up either. I found Estee Lauder to be a bit heavy and I could feel it on. I've had samples of Clinique which feel quite nice being applied and although I am aware of something on my skin at first, that feeling passes quite quickly. I also have Clarins Instant Light which I don't feel at all, but tbh, I can't see what difference it makes either Grin.
I'd go and beg lots of samples and see what suits you best.

I also hate foundation but tried that one you brush on, it's a powder, called Bare Minerals. A bit american in its sales pitch but actually incredibly easy to whack on and smooths out your skin without looking or feeling it's there.

I've started using MAC beauty balm (its SPF 35, a light moisturiser and a bit of light cover and evening out of skintone). I rate it highly. Or try tinted moiturisers, eg Bobby brown. Much lighter than foundation and look much more natural.

Free samples are definitely a good idea - thanks - had slipped my mind.
Last time I asked for samples of eye cream I ended up with so many that they lasted for about 18 months!
Will have a go with the Clinique, MAC and Bare Minerals.

I'd start with a tinted moisturiser (I like No 7, tried only because I had a free sample and thought it was brill and have kept on using) If you're not used to or fond of foundation, it's a gentle move in that direction.

Lots of people love Bare Minerals and at least as many hate it. Ditto any other type of foundation. Most makeup concessions in department stores/Boots will try stuff out on you, so take your time and see what you think. Try for samples but I've found they're less willing to give them out these days - I think they've got wise to MNetters Grin
