Vibrant but natural red hair dye, semi-permanent?

I tried Casting's but it was a bit drab.

I don't want anything too purpley-mauroon, I'd like a nice strong gold-red auburn.

Anyone have any recommendations?

TIA Smile

Mango intense copper or paprika power by feria. i love both shades on my mid brown hair. Very natural looking 'natural redhead' as opposed to a scarlet red shade. superdrug do own brand of some feria shades, might be cheaper?

OovoofWelcome · 20/03/2012 20:24

Thanks Torshi - are they permanent though? And if they are, do they still fade away over time (I know they aren't supposed to but some do don't they). I'd rather they faded so there wasn't a regrowth issue!

ah - mine might be perfect for you - it's a boots own make semi in warmed terracotta auburn. i tried loads to get exactly what you describe.

the pic i have on my profile shows it but the light is making it look darker and less red. let me find another one where i've taken one that shows it better.

OovoofWelcome · 20/03/2012 21:12

Thanks season - you look gorgeous! It does look darker than I'm after in that pic though, so another pic would be grand if you find one Smile

thank you! Smile

check it out again now! hunted thru loads and they all looked different but don't know how much of that is the lighting and how much the fact that semis do change quite a bit from when they're freshly dyed to the end of the month.

the darker one on my profile was taken just after it had been done whereas the new one is probably half way thru the month.

in sunlight it looks WAY red.

SeasonOfTheWitch · 20/03/2012 21:48

ah just found one i took today div which shows it pretty well - on profile too

OovoofWelcome · 21/03/2012 08:51

Yes that is very nice Smile Might have to give that one a go.

Loving your vivid colour combos btw!

ah good- glad it might hit the spot!

i'm a spring - we're all cbeebies presenters at heart Blush

My preferred shades are permanent, but they do fade in 6-8 weeks, but not so much, because i still get roots! I have never found a red that 'sticks', home or salon.

Bumperlicious · 21/03/2012 20:41

I'm alway after this too, like Grace in Will&Grace. Season, you are beautiful & have fab dress sense!

louise2011 · 21/03/2012 20:49

This is exactly what I am searching for!! I dye it knowing it will take 2 wks before I like the colour.
Actually had found my perfect semi- perm last year but they discontinued it- I was so upset. Don't want the regrowth from permanent & 'Will & Grace' red is the exact colour I want. Thanks for the suggestions

Seasonofthewitch - I think you are my new (first) style guru! I am a spring and have faded natural red hair which is sadly ashen now, will try your colour!

SeasonOfTheWitch · 22/03/2012 08:39

thank you bumper! Smile Love the Grace reference Grin

i think that's the best compliment i've ever had although i am totally unfit for it of course - i've only clawed my way out of the baby years of mumboots and bootcuts* recently myself.

always nice to bump into a fellow springer - when were you diagnosed? have you got used to our somewhat lurid (as a summer recently described them Hmm) tones?

*an exaggeration
**they were years ago

SeasonOfTheWitch · 22/03/2012 08:42

almighty asterisk fail

deltawab · 22/03/2012 11:27

I have to agree with Torshi, the loreal Feria in Mango Intense Copper is gorgeous. It is permanent, however does fade a little over time, but not as much as other brands. It leaves you hair with a vibrant auburn hue, not too red or burgundy iukwim? I can't wait until i dye my hair again with this colour, but i have made a promise to myself that i would be kinder to my hair this year and not colour it every month like i did last year!

I haven't yet tried the Paprika Power shade, i'll probably stick with the Intense Copper shade - unless Torshi comes back & persuades us to try the Paprika?......

audley · 23/03/2012 10:40

Seasonofthewitch, have bought recommended hair colour and a new teal dress! Was diagnosed 11 years ago but never really took the advice! Spent a my childhood in autumn colours which made me feel totally drab. Am going to experiment more, your photo's have given me confidence to try, thanks.

Btw, what colour accessories would you team with my new dress?

Shanti11 · 23/03/2012 10:57

Wow. SeasonOfTheWitch - you have the most amazing skin!!! :-))) really luminous. I'm obsessed with skin at the mo - even got my own thread going on another page about effective skincare!! Anyway the point was I was thinking of trying body art henna but for my hair. the henna that indians use for body art (you know at weddings and stuff) instead of the henna people sell for hair, is meant to give a really instense colour but also fades out naturally so you don't get the re-growth issues. I have never used henna but had an extreme allergic reaction to dark chemical dyes from boots and the hairdressers. Have very sensitive body/skin I think. Anyway, am now considering using henna but would love an opinion from someone who loves it....looked at few youtube videos and the red looks stunning.

SeasonOfTheWitch · 23/03/2012 12:11

good work! mind you, i'm a bit suspicious of teal as it can be muted - is it a nice bright, warm one like our aquamarine? if so, you can honestly try any of our palette with it. It astounds me how well the colours all work together. you know the 3 colour rule for springs too right? that is so important to getting the full effect. eg i love our aquamarine with red and then either cream, grey or gold (eg a gold cardi).

thank you shanti! the henna sounds well worth trying. do post back if it works. i'm grey enough to 'need' to colour now but not so grey as it has to be permanent.

sorry for hijack OP!

AlanMoore · 23/03/2012 13:36

What's your natural colour? I use Casting in 645 (can't remember the name) and that gives me exactly what you're after, but I am natural blonde so it "takes" really well. You might be better off with a permanent if you are brunette.

Lush henna might be good for you too, try mixing 2/3 red with 1/3 of the auburn one but it is messy and time consuming and you need to be careful as you could end up with problems if you want to go back to "dye" (I had no problems putting Casting over it but I really wouldn't recommend anyone try it!)

AlanMoore · 23/03/2012 13:38

Should say I loved the results from the henna but just don't have the time. I liked Lush's best, found it easiest and their "auburn" one was lovely, the red was a bit much on blonde hair though did look v dramatic and cool and I may go back to it one day!

OovoofWelcome · 25/03/2012 20:23

No worries about the hijack season, you've reminded me that I want to get my colours done at some point Grin I don't seem to fall easily into any of the colour categories I've seen online...

alan I'm a natural redhead. I guess I'm looking for something approaching my natural colour but with a bit more oomph. Need a little bit of grey coverage and a tad more zing.

Feria mango lovers, the colour looks quite beautiful but I'm a bit scared it would be a little too tangerine/firey/artificial.....no?

SeasonOfTheWitch · 26/03/2012 08:30

do it do it do it oov! tis worth every penny! with red hair, you're probably an autumn but you could be a spring like me. tbh, you could be any of them but those two are most likely.
