Recommendations for a new foundation please!

I'm going back to work soon and need to find a really good foundation to make me look good! I've been using Garnier BB cream for a quick and easy cover up but need something with better coverage really, as I have rubbish skin (acne and acne scars). Combination skin, very pale, ideally it'd be pretty long lasting so I don't need to re-apply during the day.

What do others use / recommend?

Thanks!

I have Lupus which means I have very bad scarring across my cheeks and any spots I get dont heal leaving very bad scars on my face. Anybody who has seen me without make up is very shocked about how bad my skin really is because of Avons long lasting foundation. It is gauranteed to last for 12 hours and with a good concealor I find this foundation to be the best, and I have tried many over the years. I always finish it with some powder to make it last even longer. I have pale but slightly yellow toned skin and their nude is perfect for me. Ivory is for pale with a slight red tone, nude is perfect for me, and the rest get darker. Hope this helps :)

Bare Minerals and the Bisque conceal or will cover scars - it's amazing stuff.

Illamasaqua skin base. Really good coverage without looking heavy. Lasts really well and comes in a huge variety of pale shades starting at white and working it's way up through the various tones of yellow, pink and neutral undertones.

I'll second Bare Minerals. It really amazing, as Valiumredhead says.

lavender11 · 21/03/2012 12:46

in relation to Bare Minerals how did you work out what colour foundation you needed? do you have to have a consultation or is it possible to work it out from a website / online etc in which case what is the link?

valiumredhead · 21/03/2012 12:48

I would go to an orange lady and then ask her for a tester to take home and try as I was given the wrong colour because of the harsh lights in the shop. Then order on ebay or Feel Unique Wink

I don't like the Bare Minerals. It's fine as a powder but I have spider veins and rosacea and need a thicker base. I use 17 BB cream as a primer then Mac's foundation (you'll really need to go to a counter to find your perfect shade) and Bare Minerals as a powder. The foundation lasts all day while not looking cakey even though it's a matte finish.

valiumredhead · 21/03/2012 12:52

Bisque is the best thing I have ever used for spider veins and rosacea - it's fantastic.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. The really annoying thing is Chanel used to do a perfect one, but discontinued it a couple of years ago. Looks like I need to put DD in the creche and go talk to some orange ladies!

Vichy dermablend is brilliant and specifically designed to cover flaws/blemishes etc. I too have combi.skin and wanted a heavier coverage rather than the cheap ones which disappear after half an hour. This was recommended to me on here and the difference has been incredible. I now look(well, think I do anyway) very professionally made-up as it lasts ages with brilliant coverage. Its cheaper than all the other really good ones like Lancome/Clarins etc.About £15 and a tiny bit goes a really long way. Lasts ages. You really have to try this! I am fairly pale-skinned and find shade-NUDE 25- is right for me!

Penneyanne · 21/03/2012 20:36

Also, because I have combination skin too, I use no.7 loose transcluscent powder over it. This I need to apply a few times during the day as I get a bloody shine on my nose after an hour or too even though I'm 46 and thought the skin gets drier as you get older.GrrrhConfused

FamiliesShareGerms · 22/03/2012 19:28

Penneyanne and Weekirkie I've never used powder and foundation, thinking it would look too heavy... Is this where I've been going wrong, I wonder?

Agree with the other bare minerals recs.

I have quite red skin due to thread veins , t really does cover very well but you need to get the shade right and learn how to apply . It takes practice to get the coverage right. The bisque is fab for red bits. I have combination skin and find the matte version stays put all day.

QuinnFabray · 22/03/2012 22:38

Yes, Vichy Dermablend is really great. Both the cream in a tube and the stick version. Estee Lauder full coverage is excellent too, but more expensive.

Monica145 · 22/03/2012 22:42

Clinique Superbalanced has always suited my oily/ upset skin, i use alabaster which i think is the palest shade and love it.
