My step mother says that she washes almost everything, does anyone here ignore the dry cleaning law?
and what about these here trousers, should I risk it?
Or play safe and go to the dcleaners.
I have a funeral to go to and tons to do I'd love my step mother's courage but she has a ton of clothes and can afford accidents!

I machine wash almost everything, eg woollen jumpers, silk tops go on a wool cycle and removed immediately to dry. Some things might be left at the bottom of the laundry basket to fester hand washed. Wool trousers and suits are probably the only thing I send to the dry cleaners (cost of cleaning far less than replacement cost of clothes shrinking). Wish I had your MiL's courage too!

Ok this is my secret dry clean Only method.

With a damp cloth wipe any actual dirty bits off the trousers.
Hang trousers on a good coat hanger. ( not wire a wide plastics is best but wood will do)
Hang the coat hanger in the bathroom.

Turn on the shower and run hot for about 5-10 minutes ( you can even shower in it) but don't have the fan going.
Leave the trousers in this steam for a good 20-30 minutes
Turn on Fan.
Iron trousers the next morning

I do this with all my suits ect. you can do this for quite a few cycles then do a dry clean.

I was slightly worried when I saw your posting name that your method would involve some combustible substances and goggles..! But your secret method sounds good - will give it a go next time, thanks.
