I like the way people dress in edinburgh. I'm early 30s, 3 children, lost my sense of style and living in jeans and jumpers. round this part of the world mum uniform (boden) is pretty standard.... and no good shops here either.

I live in Edinburgh (totes stylish, natch) and love people watching here. I reckon the weather stops people from spilling-flesh fashion disasters. Most people do look better in coats and boots than midriff tops and flip flops.

I also dislike the Boden/Fat Face/Joules Vibe but like Toast, Anglomania, Jigsaw, Anthropologie, Gap and H&M.

Edinburgh, really........sure you're not just looking at the tourists/students?
I'm actually wearing tartan skinny jeans today Blush

Yup, we're all super stylish up here Smile cough splutter

However, I do live in dresses, skirts, generally more girly clothes even when I'm toddler chasing and that does seem quite common. Dresses with a fuller skirt (or skirts and tops), cute pumps for getting around in but generally switch to heels at work or anywhere nice. Have a lot of skater dresses in quite cheerful colours.

Hobbs has a few nice things - can be hit or miss though, but recently acquired their lovely cat print dress so a fan at the moment. Dorothy perkins and Oasis can both be good for dresses too. French Connection is occasionally lovely and they have a pretty good sale on, also have a lovely blazer from Ness which is quite nice. They are quite popular up here- I live in the city centre and see a lot of their handbags doing the rounds.

Occasionally Phase Eight or Monsoon will do a really nice fifties type skirt or dress too, and I get the odd bargain from Ted Baker or Karen Millen.

One thing I would say you see a lot of in Edinburgh is nice coats and scarves! I have a thing for good coats anyway but because we only get about a month where we don't need them, I think people bother a bit more. French Connection did a nice one called Wonderland last season which I think might still be kicking around in sales/ebay outlet. Monsoon are often good for coats too.

The thing about Edinburgh is that there are lots of vintage shops like Armstrongs and Those Were The Days and independent boutiques like Bohemia as well as shops that are a mix of both like Godiva. I do think the stores here tend to be a little less mainstream. We had an Anthropologie before we had a Primark, for example.

I love all the shops that SundaeGirl recommended. Anthropologie has proved to be popular in Edinburgh. I could spend all day in there and frequently do. I love the fact they seem to have a never ending sale with some incredible reductions.
