Is it me? Tops riding up and jeans riding down!

Shakey1500 · 15/03/2012 19:24

Grrr. Why is is that seemingly all my t-shirts ride up within seconds of pulling them down and half the time I'm hoiking my jeans up as they twist and wangle themselves down a la builders bum???

They're fine when I try them on in the shop. I'm fed up now as I spend half my time adjusting my midriff area. Is it just me?

me too....so annoying

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 15/03/2012 19:53

My jeans only do that when I put on weight

frumperina · 15/03/2012 21:20

No, me too. Most annoying.

Shakey1500 · 15/03/2012 21:31

Well tis true, I have a couple of extra middle age spread llbs put on BUT BUT BUT this is even after trying them on before I buy Confused

I think- Can get them over hips? Check. Can bend down in them? Check. Fasten zip/buttons? Check. Etc etc

Wear them after purchase, 5 minutes later I'm hoiking the buggers up. And every 5 minutes thereafter.

No I am utter pissed off with the whole debacle. Either all trousers are faulty or I am.

Shakey1500 · 15/03/2012 21:44

It has to be the trousers, not us. I shall start a petition to who, I've no idea but it sounds good

Belt.

Shakey1500 · 15/03/2012 22:03

I've tried belts TML but I'm allergic to the nickle in the buckle and end up with an insanely itchy patch where it rests. Resulting in a scratching, hoiking Shakey bumbling along the road. I guess I could ask DH to get me a gold or silver one for Mothers Day Grin

belts ruin tops and I still have to yank.

wimini · 15/03/2012 22:15

I have heard great things about next high rise jeans. I tried GAP mid rise and they were monstrously crap. I think tops are built for short people. I like the long tunicy ones. Long Tall Sally is good too.

TheMightyLois · 15/03/2012 22:27

Oh, me too - steel ones are ok though.

deviladvocate · 15/03/2012 22:31

Have just bought my very first pair of non-hoiking jeans (post childbirth) - went to levi's in Cambridge and a lovely lady actually measured me and found me a pair of jeans that reach my natural waist without looking mumsy and don't wriggle. They were Demi curve slim leg ones and I love them so much only issue I do have is that they're a very dark demin and are much smarter than nearly all of my scruffy tunic tops..

I suspect your jeans are just cut too low to stay up by themselves, like all of my other ones, I hate the whole builders bum, saggy bum business.

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 15/03/2012 22:35

oh, i get this

its like my jeans are all made for someone with a fat back Hmm - they just gape at the back, whatever i do

they always fit fine in the shop because stretch denim fits deceptively well when new or just washed - then after you've had them on an hour, they start to sag Angry

cornsilkidy · 15/03/2012 22:36

dresses. problem solved

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 15/03/2012 22:42

i live on a farm

i love a nice dress but i have sheep and mud and a toddler...

Shakey1500 · 15/03/2012 23:03

Ooh dresses Just not my thing I'm afraid. I own a very naice LBD but hardly get chance to wear it and another sort of floaty, paisley affair but I look like a waif in it, can't carry it off Confused I've tried cardis, wraps, whatever, even coloured opagues and bovverish boots but ended up looking about 12.

Yes QOE it's the gappage isn't it? Perhaps being measured is the way forward?

Coat the metal bit of the belt in clear nail varnish

Iamweasel · 15/03/2012 23:09

YES! it's like my clothes hate me and the good lord meant me to be bare

But I'm old, wobbly and fat

Even dresses, the obvious solution to this problem, ride up up up up
Bottoms down
Tops up
Seriously, what should I wear?

Iamweasel · 15/03/2012 23:43

Even super tight high waisted leggings fall down on me

Seriously clothes hate me. I'm the north. They are the south

singingprincess · 16/03/2012 09:57

I was just about to post this very same thing! Spooky!

Awaits solution!

Pannacotta · 16/03/2012 11:08

Get a belt with a fabric covered buckle.
And buy jeans with no stretch in them, that helps prevent slippage...

Wear long toips which go the thigh as well and then even if these ride up you wont end up with builders bum...

Havingkittens · 16/03/2012 12:18

I have now come to the conclusion that the reason some of my tops ride up is that they are too small. Anything very clingy rides up when you move. That's why it looks fine in the changing room. You are standing still and not wearing the garment for very long.

Jeans riding down, well, that's because a lot of them are cheaply and badly made and not cut properly. I have only ever had this problem with cheaper jeans. Never with Levi's, for example. If you buy jeans from a company that just makes jeans they do all sorts of R&D about fit, cut etc because it is their business. If you buy jeans from somewhere like H&M, Zara, Topshop, they are just designed for the look and mass produced without much thought to the fit or function.

MsWeatherwax · 16/03/2012 14:30

With the Levi's, they are a lot cheaper if you go to an Levi's outlet like at Cheshire Oaks or similar.

I have this problem with jeans and with trousers and with all tops once they have been washed. I think some tops maybe shrink? I have started buying cheap vests from Primark and wearing them underneath (the same colour as trousers if possible to lengthen my body, but a different contrasting colour might look nice). The vests come down low and then I can wear whatever pretty annoyingly short top over it without having to show my tum every time I reach up.

MistyMountainHop · 16/03/2012 14:36

me too :(

and i only wear skinny jeans, you would think they wouldnt fall down! Angry

UsedToBePretty · 16/03/2012 14:45

You need one of those bump band things that you can get for when you're pregnant.

They cover the midriff and hold trousers up and it just looks like you are embracing layering Grin
