who does and who doesn't? I'd love to but not sure I have the nerve. A woman came to school with some on today and looked amazing!!

I think I need an orange red though and my teeth are naturally yellowish. She had lovely white teeth in the vid

(I admit I'm not sure but like the body shape face shape thing I neever seem to fit any catergory properly)

StellaAndFries · 16/03/2012 00:05

I wear red lipstick every day, I have blue eyes, almost black hair and warm skin tones.

CakeandRoses · 16/03/2012 00:14

i wear red lipstick most days now - would never have done it before i had my 'colours done' last year. now when i wear red lipstick it just looks right and kind of natural Hmm

i've got reddy brown hair, pale (but warm) skin and greeny/blue eyes ('m a bright spring)

gladyoucame · 16/03/2012 12:43

Cake what red lipstick do you use then? I'm also a Spring and have bought some nice Coral lippie but not found a red yet. But the difference in wearing a bright lipstick is 'wow'!

KristinaGoesWest · 16/03/2012 12:53

@bronze: you should not be worried at all as there are red shades that can make your teeth look visually witer than they are. That's just one of the red lisptick tricks.

bronze · 16/03/2012 12:54

So how do you recognise the right colour when you're actually in the shop?

KristinaGoesWest · 16/03/2012 12:56

@gladyoucame - if you a Spring type lady look for a red lipstick which has yellow hues, similar to your skin. Personally, I like Tom Ford's range as its lipsticks come not only in beautyful reds, but also mousterise your lips which is a bit rare with other brands.

KristinaGoesWest · 16/03/2012 12:59

It should come with a blue hue which re-inforces whiteness in your teeth and is an oposite to yellow hues. Suggest you ask a shop assistant as she / he will make sure it not only makes your teeth look whiter, but also matches your skon tone.

EggInABap · 16/03/2012 13:06

Ok so I tried this for the first time recently on two seperate occasions, the red seemed to bleed into my face by the end of both nights and I looked like a clown, what did I do wrong? I used lipliner both times! Gutted because I love the look. It wasnt a cheao lippy either, it was £12 from benefit!

MooMinCow · 16/03/2012 13:14

Egg - you need this Body Shop liner. Stops feather lines round the mouth!

EggInABap · 16/03/2012 13:29

Thanks MooMinCow!

sedgieloo · 16/03/2012 13:40

I have never worn red until heading to the MAC counter age 35 to see once and for all if there was a red for me and came away with MAC Russian Red, it is pretty fabulous and meant to suit most. Anyway worth a look there they will try them with you

sedgieloo · 16/03/2012 13:43

here she is

Hopefully · 16/03/2012 13:48

Just add, you don't necessarily need a blue hued red. I have warm skin tone and blue reds make my teeth yellow and my skin corpse-like. Yellow based reds give me whiter teeth and good skin. It's basically 100% down to your skin tone

Neena28 · 16/03/2012 15:00

I'm a winter and love mac's ruby woo. My sister has totally different colouring to me but same lippie looks fab on her too. Its a blue based red and makes my (not so white) teeth look like a toothpaste ad!! I use mac's red lipliner and a sally hansen lipliner that goes around the outer edge of the lips to prevent feathering. Got the sally hansen one from sainsburys so am guessing its easily availble.

Really would rate 'ruby woo' as worth a go....I love it and mac assistants are always super helpful and very patient!!

gladyoucame i use No 17's Supreme Shine Lipstick in Hot stuff as its quite deep without being at all bluey. i blot it and then wear Bodyshop's red dream gloss over the top as i don;t like a really lipsticky look (i'm a natural ingenue so lipstick can be a bit much on me)

weirdly i find reds easier to wear than corals - might be cos i'm quite close to winter so need more contrast.

other springs in my facebook colours group love clinique dubbonet (a corally red), mac so chaud and mac crosswires. if you want some more ideas then let me know and i'll ask them.

therumoursaretrue · 16/03/2012 20:15

Bonze
I wear orange reds, blue reds and everything in between, only ones i tend to steer clear of are browney reds! Maybe you are a bit like me, as I am between face shapes and also when I had my colours done when I was training the tutor was stumped and basically said I could get away with most colours!

Also my teeth are far from gleaming white and orange reds look fine on me. While the blue in blue reds counteracts yellowness in teeth particularly well, most bright colours create enough contrast to make teeth look whiter!

Ask for samples when you go shopping (a good counter won't refuse you one!) or ask the sales assistant to apply a range of reds to let you see which one suits you best before you decide which one to go for.

therumoursaretrue · 16/03/2012 20:15

Oops! I meant Bronze of course!

Cake thanks I'll try those. Already got Mac Crosswires which I love but will try those reds you recommended.

bronze · 16/03/2012 21:40

Rumours you may be right. Clothes wise the only colours I tend to avoid are most blues and most reds. I mainly stick to autumnal colours but am perfectly happy in hot pinks. Dark hair dark eyes and a brother who described my skin as being like skimmed milk.

sobenobu · 17/03/2012 18:26

glad - try Clinique Parisian red buttershine. I'm a Spring and love this.

Claryrocks · 17/03/2012 19:28

That's an amazing link Smorgs. Although you are to blame for me having a hideously late night (bed at 1 when DCs wake about 6) as I know love Sali Hughes on the guardian website. Her beauty videos are AMAZING!! I am going to try red lipstick - and flicky eyes!!
