Facial Oil

Can you recommend a facial oil suitable for oily skin?

I'm thinking of trying a facial oil but am a bit reluctant due to my oily spot prone skin. I usually avoid all oil on my face, it does make me break out, oil cleansing brought me out in under skin boils, I'm scared facial oil will do the same.

Are there any which are specifically recommended for oily skin? Anyone with oilynspotty skin tried one they'd recommend?

I have been on QVC looking at Decelor and Liz Earle oils but they seem to be recorded for dehydrated mature skin.

My skin is mature, but a mature oil slick.

Go and have a consultation somewhere like Clarins. I use their orchid face oil and it's marvellous, I'd broken out in excema type patches on my face and it's cleared it up. But then my skin is "normal" to begin with, so I'm not sure if there's another you should try.

I have oily skin and LOVE The Sanctuary Facial Oil followed by their evening cream. Soaks in very well and in the morning, my skin is balanced, supple and not oily. Breakouts have also reduced.

Oil Based Cleansing?

Works for me (so far)

MordechaiVanunu · 09/03/2012 16:22

Oh no no to oil based cleansing. Broke me out into nasty spots, that's why I'm scared of facial oil.

I like Decleor facial oil Essence Neroli I think its called.

I have lined, old, greasy, flaky ,spotty, open pored skin. I'm quite the catch.

But using that does give my skin a drink of something good and it looks more even in the morning

I have really greasy skin, and Clarins Lotus oil is absolutely brilliant - I put it on at night and instead of my old oil slick in the morning my skin is just a tiny bit greasy, and much clearer and more glowy.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 09/03/2012 16:33

I like Liz Earle Superskin and I have oily skin with the occasional spot fest!

It's not greasy at all, smells divine and does lovely things to my skin without making me spotty.

itdidntworkout · 09/03/2012 16:51

You can get Liz Earle on QVC. If you don't like it, you can return it under the 30 day money back guarantee.

MissFoodie · 09/03/2012 17:08

there's a melvita face oil for balancing, its super light, the key thing you want is jojoba oil as it's the lightest, will sink in well and not leave a slick behind

castlesintheair · 09/03/2012 17:11

With the oil cleansing thing you do have to persevere for some time as it can you make you spotty but it should clear up. I am oily skinned and do the OCM then a potent vitamin c cream (with retinol in it) and then Bio Oil. Working really well.

QuinnFabray · 09/03/2012 17:18

Clarin's Lotus oil is for oily skin. I've only been using it for a week or two, so can't comment, but I am liking it so far.

GavisonandOn · 09/03/2012 17:20

Don't laugh, but the one by LuLu (think it has some ridiculous name like Youth Juice, but can't be arsed to go upstairs and check, sorry Grin) is lovely. I use it at night and it sinks in really quickly and has been kind to my combination skin.

coffeeinbed · 09/03/2012 19:32

Another vote for Clarins.
Decleor or Darphin would be other options.
Dr. Hauschka have one as well, not too convinced about it though.
Another option would be Baume Essentiel - brill for clearing congested skin.
What you can do now is go to a Clarins counter and ask for a sample of Lotus oil.
They have tons, it's been relaunched and while all the others samples are gone - or so I've been told [hmmm] Lotus sample is widely available.
It should last you at least a week, so you can see how it goes.

caffinequeen · 10/03/2012 07:16

I love the Green People anti-aging oil, I only use it at night and a light moisturiser in the day. You only need a couple if drops do it lasts ages! I have oily skin but no breakout subsequently using this.

billgrangersrisotto · 10/03/2012 07:20

You can buy an oil facial wash in boots called Nip and Fix. I bought I because it was considerably cheaper than the bobbi brown facial PIL that I actually wanted (which smells amazing). Anyway, I can report that the nip and fix stuff is excellent.

billgrangersrisotto · 10/03/2012 07:21

Oil not PIL !!

Ryoko · 10/03/2012 14:36

Why spend all that money, whats wrong with Rescue/Bio oil? I've been slapping that on my face for years no problem, they are all the same anyway just a mix of things like evening primrose and almond oil etc.

AvaMaria · 10/03/2012 14:46

I bought sweet almond oil from holland and Barrett and use it to do a facial massage once a week before exfoliating and a mud mask, it's meant to be good for oily skin

MordechaiVanunu · 10/03/2012 14:54

Well, I do have some sweet almond oil, and also hazelnut oil which seems to be in many of these oils (got those for OCM which didn't work for me) but I was kind of presuming there was also some other magical ingredients on these oils as well as the carrier the oil that gave additional benefits?

Have I been conned into thinking this?

Could I make my own facial oil?

I had been swaying towards the clarins lotus oil and getting a sample...

I don't mean to be rude, but why are you so keen to try facial oils if every experience you've had of them has left your skin in a mess?

Wouldn't it be better to just stick with what experience has shown you will work for your skin?

Ryoko · 10/03/2012 15:17

As far as I am aware study after study has shown that everything is pretty much the same moisture wise, from £1 Aqueous cream to £30 high end stuff. other then adding moisture to your skin all they can really do is add vitamins and the like found in stuff like Almond oil and honey etc.

If anything really did have a magical effect on your skin like they show in the adverts it would have to be subjected to medical testing and be classed as medicine rather then a toiletry.

(As far as I am aware).

madmomma · 10/03/2012 22:34

neals yard sweet orange is nice for oily skin

Judester24 · 10/03/2012 22:44

Have a try of ESPA balancing face treatment oil. It's great for oily skin, use at night in place of a night cream.
Ryoko, I have to disagree there, natural oils are much more nourishing than synthetic creams, the molecules are much smaller and can penetrate through to the deeper layers. Think of how products such as baby oil (a petrochemical) will sit on the skin whilst olive oil (natural) will sink in.
Also a lot of skin products do go through medical grade testing, Guinot products for example.

MordechaiVanunu · 11/03/2012 14:38

Thanks all.

Amistillsexy I'm considering trying facial oil as I feel it may improve the condition or appearance of my skin. Many people seem to think they do good things for their skin, so Im wondering if I can find one for oily skin that won't cause problems and would hydrate, plump and control the oil.

Yes it's a bit risky, which is why I asked for recommendations.

MBers · 24/03/2012 15:47

I was similarly worried about applying oils to my face because I also have oily skin but knew they would benefit my skin re wrinkles, elasticity and overall appearance. I read reviews about people with similar skin to mine using Liz Earles's superskin concentrate and gave that a go. I found it quite expensive and I must admit it did not make my skin any oilier. However I recently switched to a cheaper facial oil by Mama Nature called young at heart and I actually feel my skin is much less oily since using this.
