Going to India at Easter. Will be in the South, travelling quite a lot.

It will be very hot and humid.

What should I pack?

Thanks.

not much! buy lots of lovely cotton wide legged trousers and tunic style tops while you're there for peanuts. I got some great leather sandals for next to nothing which I wore non-stop.

make sure you pack some kind of re-hydration sachets! calamine lotion!

lucky you! tis fabulous

xx

We went to Kerala the Easter before last. It was very, very humid indeed!
We travelled around alot - the weather can vary a bit depending on where you are, and can get a bit chillier at night. What's your plan?

I took lots of vest tops and shorts, plus a few very thin cotton long-sleeved tops and sarongs to coverup when necessary. Also a couple of thin cardi's and a maxi dress and long loose trousers for evening (mind the mozzies!)

Take a sun hat, sunglasses, swimsuit, flipflops, open toed sandals, loose cotton tops and trousers, shorts. Agree with misswoo that you can buy a lot of this stuff from there. Keep out of the sun in the afternoon. A scarf/pashmina also useful for covering up/ going into temples and mopping up sweat. Take a mosquito repellent cream - rife with dengue fever.

Have a great time!

Agree with all the above.

I ended up buying what I wore out there and my packed stuff remained packed. Enjoy! Well jel!

We went to Kerala the same time of year a few years ago. Very hot, very humid. Went with loose cotton tops and trousers most of the time. Stuff you can easily rinse out and dry quickly, as I found I wanted to get changed a couple of times a day.
I know they are hideous, but I found Crocs to be the perfect footwear. Ventilated and easy to rinse all the dust and sweat off.
Very Envy by the way.

Thanks for all the advice - think I will pack light and buy stuff when we get there. Might have to dust off my Crocs which have been relegated to gardening shoes!

"Local" clothes are the way forward - most women in the south wear saris, but I didn't think I'd be able to pull one off so I wore clothes very similar to this when I was in India - a cotton salwar kameez and dupatta is cool, comfortable and minimises hassle. You need FabIndia - India's equivalent of Zara. It's a proper chain store (no haggling!) and most shopping malls have a branch. On your first day, take a taxi to your nearest branch and buy a few mix and match salwars (baggy cotton trousers) and kurtas (the night-shirt like thing - should be roughly the length shown in the photo) and a big dupatta (the scarf - this is essential, you're not fully dressed in India without one!). Sandals on your feet. FabIndia also do LOVELY home stuff - beautiful bedlinen etc, the sort of stuff you get in Zara Home - so you may want to go there on your last day as well!
