best brands for skinny toddler DD?

blondieminx · 08/03/2012 01:10

DD is 2 and is 75th centile for height but only 25th for weight. I am really struggling to find trousers and skirts that don't fall off her. Have any of you lovely ladies got similalrly built DD's and if so where do you shop?

Those elasticated pull-waist button thingies seem to disappear on kids clothes for those older than 24months ...and all the "toddler" clothes have elasticated waists which are all too big before they're stretched out at all, iyswim?!

Going down a size is not an option because of her gangly willowy long arms and legs - she needs the length of the right age clothes but they all seem to be HUUUGE round the waist.

Advice on good shops to try gratefully recieved.... but although I can bake I can't sew for toffee Blush so I won't be making any clothes for her myself!

I would try Gap, H&M and Vertbaudet.

Gap and H&M usually have some things with adjustable waists and imo Vertbaudet tends to be slim fitting.

Gap or John Lewis are best for my dd who is also 75% in height but 25 percentile in weight :)

Joyful My dd is 5 and she could still fit into her 12-18 months trousers waist-wise, but obviously it skims her knees length-wise Grin. She literally never outgrows her dresses because they never get tight around the chest. They just go through incarnations as maxi, then mini, then tunic, then top-over-leggings!

I second Gap and H+M. Their quality is great, in particular H+M whose trousers are still going strong for dd2, who has a similar body shape Smile

Next do slim fit / regular and plus fit in most of their clothes now for kids .

Zara the best so far for my DS, who is 75th centile for height, and 25th for weight. H&M also not bad. Gap a little on the big side, but they do tend to have the elasticated waists. Same with John Lewis.

Adams online are good for slim fit.

dundeemarmalade · 08/03/2012 08:08

I have found monsoon to be okay. but pricey. Don't mind paying a bit cost things do last - leggings - capris - shorts over 2 yrs!

snapsnap · 08/03/2012 09:28

okaidi, cyrillus any french or spanish brands

Would just caution against Vertbaudet if she is tall as their sizing is a bit Hmm. I love their clothes, but have to be careful only to buy tunic style tops for DD who is almost 7 but in 8-9 clothes. She has a long body and finding tops that are a decent length is an ongoing challenge.

Just ordered some lovely t-shirts from Vertbaudet which looked hip skimming length in the catalogue. Ordered 9-10 just to be sure (as thought 7-8 would be too short - from experience). Really disappointed as the t-shirts are only about an inch longer than the age 4 ones bought for DS, and would barely reach DD's waist (on the other hand they are so wide they'd almost fit round me!). Strangely enough though the 9-10 swimming costume ordered at the same time is actually a bit too long and I've had to sew the straps up! No logic there.

Can't recommend their jeans highly enough though - DD has had several pairs and they are good qualilty with adjustable waists.

We also do the dress/tunic/top thing. DD has a gorgeous one that I bought in Monsoon (sale) over 2 years ago and is just now starting to get too small.

H&M trousers usually have the adjustable waist and their leggings are good too.

Thanks everyone Smile it was actually the frustration of Gap skirts falling off that led me to post (the baby stuff is fine so can't understand why sizing is so massive at 2-3) Hmm

Right will have a browse of the other suggestions tonight Smile

Thanks again

My dd is similar, in the end I put her in quite a few pinafore dresses etc.

RamblingRosa · 08/03/2012 12:37

I find Sainsburys trousers a no-no. In fact, most of the cheap supermarket brands seem to be cut very wide but very short. Vertbaudet jeans in slim fit are really skinny and adjustable but I agree with previous poster that their sizes are a bit all over the place. You might have to order a few and send back ones that don't fit.
H&M v good for long, skinny trousers and they all have adjustable waists. Apparently that Polarn Y Pyret or whatever it's called (Swedish shop) is good for tall thin kids.

ReapWhatYouSew · 08/03/2012 18:23

I found m&s still do adjustable waists way beyond babyhood. Also found gap did the same with jeans and debenhams slim fitting overall. Try John Lewis too. Monsoon is great but pricey.
