Me Again! A load of make-up questions that have been bugging me...

How do you remove your cleanser? I have a bog standard (Simple) cream cleanser which I massage on, and then wipe off with cotton wool pads before applying toner/moisturiser and so on.
I don't feel that I get the whole load of cleanser off (especially at night when taking makeup off) and wondered if there is a better way to go about it?

Can anyone recommend a good and cheap eye makeup remover (preferably supermarket accessible) that does waterproof mascara easily without my resorting to scrubbing Shock?
I currently have Garnier, and it's just not working well - it struggles even if I'm not using waterproof stuff.

Finally(!) Recommend me a good mascara that doesn't smudge! I use waterproof as it's smudgeproof, but I'd like one that does exciting things to my lashes Wink and waterproof just doesn't. Again, the cheaper the better - under a tenner would be great. I'm trying the Clarins free sample (from Cosmo this month) and it smudges like crazy - so much so, I'm channeling Tian Tian (Giant Panda at Edinburgh Zoo) most of the day.

Anyway - thanks for reading if you got this far! And Thanks if you actually respond!

Ha! Yes of course, MUSLINS !!

CarpeJugulum · 06/03/2012 21:22

Wow! Thank you all for the tips and recommendations!

I think I'll aim for the muslins to start with, and then aim for a foaming cleanser once this bottle is finished.

Will have a look at all the eye make up removers and mascara choices too! DH is planning a trip to the city at the weekend so will have a browse round Boots and spend some points!

I use the No 7 waterproof mascara which is fab, the only one that doesn't drop bits on my contact lenses too! Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish with the muslin cloths is fantastic and removes all makeup including the waterproof mascara brilliantly. It last ages and imo is better for sensitive skins (since you're using Simple?) than Simple, and its not a separate product for eye makeup so pretty budget too.

I second baby oil as lulumama mentioned. I have been using it for years, never irritates and takes all waterproof mascara, liquid eyeliner etc easily. Cheap too and moisturising!

Re smudging: it could be because your skin is too oily eg from the cleanser residue or your face moisturiser or eye cream when you put your mascara on. Let your creams soak in for a good 15 minutes before applying make up. You do know that mrsmartin has us all applying primer before makeup don't you? That helps with smudging. I also swear by applying a tiny bit of face powder under my eyes too and my mascara never smudges.

I wear 2-3 coats of max factor false lash and a number people have asked me whether I had my eyelashes 'done' Wink

CarpeJugulum · 07/03/2012 06:20

Oh yes Grin I worship at the altar of mrsmartin and follow her advice religiously.

I think I smudge because if I put on eyeshadow it irritates my eyes just a teeny little bit so I rub them Sad

It's been much better now I've stopped using eyeshadow and just gone for a delicate bit of eyeliner and mascara to look "groomed & defined" rather than made up. Think I'll have to look at more expensive cream eyeshadows rather than powder. [panic expensive emoticon] as my DM was also like this - t'is an age/having had my DS thing I think!

I agree, baby oil really is the best eye make up remover.

reckoner · 07/03/2012 08:43

Waitrose eye make up remover is great and cheap.

covermeup · 07/03/2012 08:46

All cleansers are different. Some need washing off, some need to stay on. My cleanser goes on dry face, wait few minutes and wash off with warm water. It should say somewhere on the packaging!

Body shop waterproof eye make up remover is very good :)
