Help!!! Recommendations needed for work clothes...

I was just told by my boss that my top was not really appropriate for work (lovely Boden number - bought in the sale!). I thought it was smart with my trouser suit but DH agreed and thought the pattern maybe a little flippant for customer site. He happily let me leave the house in the morning though! Thanks DH!

Anyway, where can I get good work classics? Equivalent to men's suit, shirt and tie?

Well I thought I could get away with dress and cardi but clearly not! Have looked in Debenhams and house of Fraser but either they don't do size 18 or it's amazingly expensive or it's jackets that would look great at a wedding but not in a meeting room!!

Oh no! I hope your boss said it nicely Hmm I have to wear suits for work and just bought two from damsel in a dress in their sale online including one skirt suit and one dress. Never bought anything from them before but really recommend. I've also bought suit dresses from oasis in the past then wear a tshirt or shirt underneath. I also have a nice suit from Reiss but it was pretty ££. Good luck!

Ooh, never heard of them! Will have a look now!!

Yikes has your boss been living in a museum. Seriously smart work clothes these days include dresses surely. Very few ladies in seriously good jobs wear suits, just classic numbers like a dress and cardigan looks good. The designer outlet centres are great for a few bargains too. He sounds like a bit of a dinasor to me. My work colleagues, love dresses, but then my boss is a fabulous 40 somethig woman who happens to be a mother of free, she is amazing she looks great in dresses too.

rightchoice · 06/03/2012 20:05

mother of three!!!

I reckon I could do dresses, but not with cardi! Also struggling to find alternatives to button down shirts as my mahoosive G cup makes shirts gape!

That's why I like shirts under a dress, less gape-age on display Grin oh also, I did notice that new York seems to be full of women's suits so if you're planning a trip..!

eleda · 06/03/2012 21:08

Ahem!! Blatant name drop!!! No New York trip planned here but glad you had a nice time!!

Oops sorry didn't mean it like that Blush but I've really struggled to find black women's suits in the uk. You can also read into that that I spent my holiday mostly buying workwear!

mirpuppet · 06/03/2012 23:08

Can you link to Boden number?

I probably have it and don't know its not work appropriate.

eleda · 07/03/2012 11:32

It's an old one and I guess the clue is in the name - they called it frivolous top but honestly, it was just a cotton v neck with patterned circles around the neck! In brown - gosh it sounds horrible!
