I'm trying to take more care of my nails and keep them varnished, but I can't find an everyday chic looking colour that I'm happy with.

I only like dark colours for evening wear, they feel too vampy on me for day wear.

I've tried beigey nudes, I have one on now- No 7 So Simple, and I just look like I have corpses hands.

I don't like the porn star white tipped French manicure look.

I think I want a pretty pale but not milky pink, that makes my nails look healthy but also 'done', so more than a pinky clear, and maybe slightly brighter than pale, but not little girly.

Does this colour exist?? Do I want too much??

Thanks all, I think I'm goung to try south molton with the white tip pencil.

I think I've decided dark colours are a no for me except in in winter or on toes.

I have been lookingnat the teals though and was thinking of trying those for summer toes. But I don't have a coral for summer toes either can anyone recommend me a good one for that?

Mrs M what is this corrector pen of which you speak? What does it do and do I need one?

love that 'singing in rain' set - The Thames is one of my favourites .

monkeysmama · 06/03/2012 11:34

For corals the Essie Tangerine is lovely but Jessica's Confident Coral is beautiful and glossy.

tangerinajolie · 06/03/2012 12:49

Another Essie fan for easy to wear manicure colours.

Try Vanity Fairest - lovely 'french' mani pink with tiny reflective particles that catch the light for subtle shimmer.

Or, Power Lunch - same subtle shimmer but a neutral slightly goldy tone.

I also use Bourjois Rose Lounge as my every day colour, it makes my nails look healthy. I usually do 2 coats as one doesn't seem finished enough.

For a my nails but better, I love OPI Passion. Not chalky or thick and the brush is good. Essie's formulation is jelly like and beautiful and they do tonnes of nudes.

In a chemists I'd recommend maybelline poudre rose -- slightly darker powdery browny rose.

I currently love china glaze for Audrey -- almost exactly the shade of Tiffany blue (which is patented). Unusual, skin brightening and two people asked me about it this morning.

But not for you if you like pale pinks

otchayaniye · 06/03/2012 14:16

OPI samoan sand is also a very good neutral nude.

Hope the new stuff works for you. What is the corrector pen?

otchayaniye · 06/03/2012 19:55

Also recommended is missjenfabulous tutorial on YouTube on applying DIY like a pro. I used to have weekly manicures and struggled to replicate the application at home. You can't often get the right angle but this way, short little strokes helped me get a great edge with no pooling around the cuticles. Be careful also with the top coat to stop it reaching the cuticles. No need for make up brushes in acetone or any other correctors.

I also love essie licorice. Yes, the black trend is over, but this sheer black gel polish is really timeless and beautiful.

Born2BRiiiled · 06/03/2012 20:05

I love Revlon "Sheer Pink". It's the one I buy often.
a milky pink

lemonbonbons · 06/03/2012 20:15

Marking place to read the ' report back'

Quejica · 06/03/2012 20:25

mrsmartin, thanks for explaining about the pencil, I'm glad I wasn't the only person who was ignorant about itSmile

polyhymnia · 06/03/2012 21:20

I have Nails Inc Porchester Sq and recommend to lovers of subtle grey tho still just prefer Essie's textures.

I'm tapping away with my lovely chic nailsGrin.

So, South Molton Street (nails Inc) was exactky what I was looking for.

It's a very shiny sheer pink but with enough colour so that my nails look polished, varnished and coloured but still natural and healthy. JUST what I wanted. I will have to finally judge in the natural daylight tomorrow, and I also like to see my nails in the mirror, but so far I love it.

The white crayon thing was a bit tricky. I spent ages trying to colour under the tip thinking 'this is not doing anything' but then reread then instructions and realised I was meant to wet it first! So, did that and it seemed to work better, but it's still a very natural barely noticeable effect I think, so not sure if it's going to be worth the hassle in the long run. Again, will judge better tomorrow, but it has given a slightly whiter look the tip just visible through the varnish.

I watched the fabulousjen YouTube clip recommended above, and consequently made no bodges with the varnish, which meant no use for my new corrector pen! Still, I basically learnt to do small strokes around the edge and cuticle and to take more time. Which I did and the results are good.

Used seche vie on top, dried quick, is super glossy, will see how long it lasts.

Thank you all.

MrsM, why don't you do some YouTube clips for us style and beauty mums netters? Watching Jen I though, MrsM knows more than this!! Give it a go.

Thanks for all your adviceSmile.
