If you really want to target the spots topically now and then long term alpha h would probably work really well for you (in particular the liquid gold).
Whatever you choose, it needs to be a sustainable routine as once you get your skin balanced you need to keep it that way - switch to another product and they will just flare up again. So, decide on a price point and go from there...
Cheapest: OCM is by far the cheapest method and has cured lots of women of their skin issues (did nothing for me but nothing works for everyone). Cost: once you have the cloths expect to pay a few pounds per year - really cheap.
Supermarket prices: You can try the Simple/Olay/Loreal/Garnier type ranges. You need a cleanser, toner and moisturiser and need to do that routine morning and evening. Cost: Maybe £7-£20 every 1-2 months depending on what offer you buy it on and what type of moisturiser you buy. Products from the same range always seem to work better together so try to avoid mixing and matching.
Higher-end High St: This is everything from No7 to Clinique. Usually you can get samples from the counters to try the products out but you need the same cleanse tone moisturise routine - it will just cost you more.
Spa Products: Elemis, Decleor, Gatineau, Alpha H, Sarah Chapman, Emma Hardy,Liz Earle...All are luxuary brands that concentrate on specific issues - Alpha H is great for Acne, Pigmentation and smoothing the skin, as is the tri enzyme range from Elemis. All of those brands can be found on qvc so you can return them if they don't suit you but they are around the same price point as clinique etc.
If you are after a really quick fix then toothpaste over night really does work at reducing the redness and size of the spot. Also, don't neglect to tone and moisturise; toner removes any residue of cleanser and returns the skin to the optimum ph level for cell renewal; moisturiser of some form is needed by everyone - people can give themselves a greasy skin by not moisturising as the skin over produces sebum (which then blocks pores) to compensate for the lack of moisture...it's just a case of finding the one that works for you.
Once you get the skincare right you just won't get spots (I haven't had one in over a year now and I used to have mild acne and loads of congestion on my nose).
