Dressipi-confirmation of a fat arse

Ismeyes · 04/03/2012 20:28

I saw another poster mention dressipi website and I thought I would try it out. It is great actually, and really easy to use.
I put in my measurements and it has confirmed in black and white what I have always known deep down - I possess a fat arse. Truly. I come up as a size 12 in tops/dresses/coats and a size 16 in jeans and trousers in most high street shops. How can this be? Loosing weight doesn't help much either - I lose it off my top half first, which does not help my shape overall.

I think I'll live with the revelation, but please tell me I'm not the only odd shaped one? No wonder I need size 9 feet.

You are pear shaped; quite normal :)

notyummy · 05/03/2012 08:49

Plenty of people like this! You can dress to flatter. Depends if you want to change it or not. You are right in that the weight does not always come off where you want it to though! I have found exercise the only way of changing my shape (and even that has it's limits frankly.) But through lots of running and strength work I have toned my upper body and whittled down the lower. I am still a pear (which is apparently the healthiest shape to be!) but I now probably have less than a single dress size difference between top and bottom.

I was told I had broad shoulders too! In my case, I think they may have a point as it explains why I hate certain items in my wardrobe and love others. Cashmere bolero makes me look bulky, single breasted tuxedo jacket love! But... I am now obsessed about being an inverted triangle and there is very little I can do about it. The thing is my shoulders can't be that broad or I wouldn't fit into normal sized clothes, now would I?

They were nice about everything else but it's a good thing they haven't seen my man calves or wobbly post-baby tummy!

Jackstini · 05/03/2012 11:34

MissM - I have also had the shoulders message! I have also had 'slim legs that go on for miles' I am 5'1" Hmm and 'waspy waist' when I ticked rounded belly.
Not sure about it yet....

Nolda · 05/03/2012 12:04

MissM - Are you me? I was also told I had broad shoulders, but I was not surprised by that. However, I am amazed that they haven't asked about shape of legs. They have suggested that I (with the chunkiest thighs in the world) buy skinny jeans!!!!

jen127 · 05/03/2012 12:46

I was basically advised to throw out all my wardrobe ! Boo Hoo!

Ismeyes · 05/03/2012 15:02

I found it helpful in that it told me I should buy dresses in a 12 with a flared skirt to them and I found the perfect dress which I would never have tried on in a twelve if it hadn't sewn the seed.

I didn't get the shoulder message...I have teeny shoulders, which makes the arse worse. I'm all boobs and bum. I was slightly offended that it couldn't really make any suggestions for clothes...am I that strange!

I used Dressipi for the first time recently. It did say I have long legs, really??? You wouldn't think that if you saw me! It did mention on every garment recommendation about my lack of waist...something I didn't have a complex about until now Wink

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 05/03/2012 17:36

Ismeeyes Grin love the thread title!!! Gotta try this now Hmm

msbuggywinkle · 05/03/2012 17:49

I also signed up recently...bloody thing keeps telling me to wear empire lines though. I'm an (overweight!) hourglass, boobs and hips equal, waist 4 inches smaller, doesn't sound right to me!

Sonotkylie · 05/03/2012 17:53

It tells me I have a straight up and down figure and should try to create curves ... I have narrow shoulders, 32ff bust, 32 in waist and 42 in hips. Curves I have ... I measured carefully and reading it back its all right. So may just be another place that can't cope with women being slim with huge boobs. Shame I was hoping it would be useful but all the recommendations would look dreadful

Ismeyes · 05/03/2012 22:07

Sonotkylie, you have the same measurements as me even down to the bra size

OP posts:
JubilationRising · 05/03/2012 22:23

It got my basic shape right - I'm curvy but it recommended skinny jeans with a low rise - no way will that work with big thighs and a muffin top!

It keeps going on about my whispy waist and suggesting I emphasize it with belts - you know what happens when you have a curvy figure and you emphasize your waist - you look like you have massive norks & arse...that is not what I want to draw attention to - I would look ridiculous - imo Gok was wrong about belts .....they work for people with no waist - people with a waist need skimming the curves not dramatically emphasizing them.

supernannyisace · 05/03/2012 23:17

I just tried it too.

Hmmm.. I think I need to measure myself better. I have never before measured my shoulders.. ????

apparently i am tall, slender and wispy... Tell that to my big muscular thighs and calves , some of it natural some gained by too much running! Ha ha ha :)

But apparently I can wear almost anything? Apart from the items in the avoid section which I wouldn't have touched anyway.

's funny!! I doubt it will stop me having a hissy fit in the sweaty, curtained changing rooms when I can't get a pair of jeans up past my knees.. grrrrrrr

realhousewifeoffitzrovia · 06/03/2012 06:51

Am I the only one who lied to dressipi and slimmed myself down a bit when entering my measurements?

supernannyisace · 06/03/2012 07:40

I guessed- never mind lied!!!!

nextphase · 06/03/2012 07:53

I saw this mentioned in an article in the paper a few months ago, and must say, I'm disappointed.
It keeps suggesting high necked stuff, which even I know my chest can't take, (and skinny jeans, which I will never, ever even try on) so I'm really reluctant to take on board any of their other advice.
And then I lost some baby weight, and I've gone from hourglass to straight, and it went even more wrong!

Hepsibaaah · 06/03/2012 10:25

It says I should chuck out most of my wardrobe. And I have 'curves in all the right places'Hmm
...that would be my thunder thighs and huge arse then.

notyummy · 06/03/2012 11:32

It's tricky - a bit like having a session with a stylist up to a point. It is bound to suggest some stuff that you would never try on (like the skinny jeans Nextphase) because the whole aim is to get you trying different different clothes than your your usual 'uniform'. If you look at it from the position of 'I absolutely know what suits me and I am not going to try anything on that I do not think will suit me' then there is probably no point in using it. If you are prepared to take some suggestions (and yes, I accept that some things will def work better than others) then you might find some real gems that you would have never have picked up usually.

I don't work for them BTW! I accept the language is a bit flowery. I had a session with a stylist/personal shopper and I got a few bits and pieces that I would have never taken off the shop floor if I had been shopping on my own - I think this is a similar mind set.

nextphase · 06/03/2012 20:09

Maybe I should say skinny jeans, which I will never ever be able to get on - I struggle with finding jeans which will contain my legs!

Sonotkylie · 07/03/2012 18:57

Sorry Ismeyes, been absent! No worries, i do have a fat arse, but I hate my boobs more ...! That's why Dressipi should be great - it lets us see past our obsessions! I come up as needing a 14 on the bottom as opposed to your 16 ... But then i knew that! I mean about mine not yours ...!(are we quits yet?) i have been in communication with 'them' and they say the website needs some tweaks as I am on the cusp of 2 shapes and also that they don't allow for huge norks in quite the right way. So they recommend that for now I cheat slightly and add 1.5 cm to shoulders and take the same off the waist. Still its fun to play with. And for those of us who are hourglassy but perhaps not as willow waisted as we once were ... its just the same as all the other shops where the things don't fit exactly! You know a proper hourglass has a 10 inch difference between waist and hip/ bust ... How do you get trousers to fit that?

piratecat · 07/03/2012 19:00

can i just say, i tried that site after reading the thread too, and i could not put in any details on the shape page, and the one after that!!

using firefox browser, wonder if that would be anything to do with it. I was looking forward to my FAT ARSE hints too!!

BellsandWhistles · 07/03/2012 19:35

I recently joined Dressipi too, after a poster recommended it. I am also of the (ahem) broad shouldered variety. I impetuously / drunkenly bought one of the dresses they recommended which is completely unlike anything i'd usually buy but it arrived today and I love it! It has done me good to be pushed beyond my comfort zone.
