Jeans for an hourglass shape?

For once I can afford something better than Topshop, so where to go for decent jeans, and what cut for an hourglass shape?

Thanks!

this is where you need to be

I go in and out a lot, and find DP skinnies in Long are a fab fit!

They have different prices, the expensive ones at35pounds are the best, heaviest fabric.

I have about 11 inches difference between waist and hip measurements and just bought a pair of these Bastyan zip detail jeans and am very pleased with the fit.

The woman in the jeans section at house of fraser was amazing, she quickly looked me up and down, instantly knew what size and style I needed and picked out three pairs for me to try on. She picked J Brand Maria, a pair of Salsa jeans and another which I can't remember. All of them fit well but I bought the Bastyan jeans as they had the most detailing of all the pairs around the £100 price mark. I didn't see the point in paying £200 for a pair of plain black skinnies that even though they fit well didn't look much different from something that could be picked up for £30.

I haven't tried them yet, but Oasis have been recommended on my brands for hourglasses thread so I'll be trying them for basic every day jeans.

Get a pair that fit your arse and have your drycleaner take a triangle out of the waist at the back. (have not actually tried this, but Lucy Mangan was just ordered to do it by terrifying wardrobe makeover woman in Stylist)

Thanks all - and thanks Sherlock for the link to the other thread which I've read with interest. I too am a fan of/recent convert to dresses and tights/leggings, but I still need a pair of jeans as the park is a 30 min powerwalk from me, and I don't really want to go in tracksuit bottoms!

Yes to Oasis. I refuse to pay more than 40 pounds for jeans though, so I'm probably no use to you.

SaltResistantSlug · 04/03/2012 14:09

Actually Remus if they come recommended I will certainly give them a try - I just remember hearing (i think on Trinny & Suzannah) that you get what you pay for with jeans.

Went shopping for jeans and black trousers yesterday. I must have been to almost every high street shop, and couldn't find anything that wasn't bootcut until I got to H&M, believe it or not! I was shocked! Got some straight leg jeans and some slim fit black trousers. I have a 12 inch difference between hips and waist.

cousinviolet · 04/03/2012 14:31

Ps. My opinion (and just my opinion), is that straight leg are good and very subtle bootcut are better than skinnies. Skinnies might look ok balanced out with some big boots, but otherwise I think they just accentuate my big bum too much.

LtheWife · 04/03/2012 14:48

I think skinnies are ok if you're a balanced hourglass (shoulders equal to hips), I feel perfectly happy wearing them with heels or ballet flats. Although I do have to be careful if I'm wearing sleeveless tops, if they don't hit the right point on the shoulders I can start to look bottom heavy. But yes, if you don't like to flaunt your hourglass curves or you're heading towards a pear then straight leg or a slight boot cut might be the way to go.
