reaction to eyebrow waxing - just me?

I've been having my eyebrows waxed for a while now (a couple of years, possisbly, can't quite remember) and as I'd expect, they are always a bit sensitive afterwards - red and swollen and a little itchy for a day or so.

Last time though, this lasted about a week and started to drive me mad. I am allergic to sticking plasters - or rather the gluey stuff on them and I wondered if there's something in the wax which is similar.

Anyone else had this?

No, just the normal redness that dies down. Mention this next time you go

I got a bit itchy last time but one I got mine done - I think it was the wipe they used after to take the extra wax off.

Beautician said it was a tea tree anti-redness thing, but it made it worse for me. This time got her just to take it off with a damp pad rather than the wipe and I was fine (barring the usual red for the rest of the day look).

Maybe yours has started doing something similar?

are you putting make up over the redness? sometimes make up can irritate the already-raw skin. Try putting aloevera gel on straight after.

The girl puts something on my eyebrows straight after - a soothing thing, I suppose - she always has done - I suppose she could've changed it. No - I don't put any make up on afterwards - I can't bear to and I'm not sure I've got anything to tone it down anyway!!

could you be allergic to beeswax - i had a red spotty rash after (my only) leg waxing and have since found out its the beeswax

cheesenpickle · 03/03/2012 16:58

I used to get a spotty rash so now get them threaded. You get a much better shape with threading, i still go red for a while as i have sentive skin but i don't get a rash and the redness is gone in a couple of hours.

I can live with redness, it's the swelling and itching that makes it unbearable.

Let your beautician know and ask if she has changed her wax brand or type recently. Some people can be allergic to certain waxes but ok with others.

It could be an ingredient in the wax called roisin, or essential oils in the wax for example.
