Charm bracelets?

4yo dd has been saying since mothers' day last year (and at Christmas and on my birthday) that she wants to buy me a charm bracelet so that she can add to it over the years. This is her decision entirely. Obviously what she means is she wants her Dad to get one for her and she'll give it to me. DH said this morning that he has tried but is utterly baffled. They're all ££, just the basic bracelets without the charms added in on top are prohibitively expensive. He can't work out if certain charms have to go with certain bracelets and is floundering but wants to try and do it.

I, as always, have no idea.

Money isn't in great abundance and I don't like gold or gaudy. I like sort of quirky stuff. Mainly beads and ethnic type jewellery. Just a couple of links would help.

This isn't my annual S&B thread, it's merely a fact finding mission for dh and dd. I'm actually sort of forming my annual thread in my head atm. It's important you get it right when you buy one item of clothing per annum. It was palazzo trousers last years btw. Except I didn't buy any as I was pregnant, vast and couldn't squeeze my unwieldy form under a tarpaulin, let alone into anything resembling fashion.

netbook, am having a look through those links atm.

Sneezeblossom, I think the exact opposite to you. Grin

Fimo, wow, that brings back some memories. I used to make tat beautiful fimo creations for my baffled adoring parents.

Grin Ah, yes, the palazzo trousers, I remember now! I was pregnant for most of last year too, but I shall soon be digging out the previous year's puddle dress that you inspired me to buy! So what are you after this year? I reckon it's some kind of jacket. Or maybe a hat? Boots? !!

ShowOfHands · 04/03/2012 21:17

You are right with one of those guesses. DH has promised to replace one of my most favourite items of clothing as a reward for losing all the baby weight. Actually I'm half a stone less than pre-pregnancy so I probably need two new items this year.

I wore my puddle dress yesterday. I wear it an awful lot. I think people think I'm on some sort of dare most days.

I'd wear mine today but it's not really compatible with breastfeeding. I'd have to hoist the whole thing up from the floor to my neck. People would be scared!!

Two items sounds a more reasonable reward. That's the sort of incentive I need - one stone to go, but cakes and winter stodge are too delicious!

ShowOfHands · 05/03/2012 08:56

Ooh winter stodge. I've just put rice pudding in the slow cooker and there's apple pie in the oven. I'll just run an extra mile to compensate. It's winter fgs. I'll fade away without a bit of custard every day.

I can bf in my puddle dress on account of its slouchy neck. It's really a marvellous thing

I could buy palazzo trousers this year too. It could be a 3 item year to make up for last year and my failure to venture into any sort of shop. I did, however, make 3 maternity dresses so the world was still gawping in horror at me, it just didn't cost anything.

Well I have custard for breakfast every day, slathered over a large double chocolate muffin (hence the extra stone), but I do have a banana with it so I figure that makes it healthy!

I don't think I can join you in the palazzo trouser wearing I'm afraid - I had some about 10 years ago and looking back at photos I look like I have a pair of elephants legs. I'm quite envious of your dressmaking skills though - I've been buying a load of fabric and ribbons etc on ebay in the vague hope that I can knock up some cool outfits for DD. Bearing in mind the sewing machine is buried under a mountain of junk and I haven't used it for over 10 years, I suspect she might be a teenager before I manage to produce anything, by which time she probably wouldn't want to be seen dead in it!

Fimo CAN look really good, my auntie makes amazing jewelry and used to buy her own beads, but now she makes most of them herself. I guess they won't look like the ones a 4 years old could make but if the clay is pretty (they have them now shiny, sparkly, marble-y, etc.) even a plain round bead looks the part :o

the pandora/chamilia/troll beads can be brought cheaper, if you could stretch the budget to a real silver one, the bracelet for this year and then beads for other occassions?

alternativley, i brought my sister a silver pandora style bracelet from ebay, it is real silver and came with a few glass and silver beads and was about £12
