breastfeeding at a wedding - help!

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me
I've got a wedding evening do to attend soon and I need to find a suitable dress/outfit. Am 5'6, size 12, generous 'up top'. No shift/A line style as they really don't suit me.
Don't mind spending up to about £100 if its something decent that I'll wear again. Have looked at special 'nursing dresses' online but nothing took my fancy, plus would prefer to try on if poss (not a fan of online clothes shopping).
Any ideas?

Your post took me back to the last wedding I went to where I failed to find a dress and bf crouching in a car almost completely naked with my dress round my neck Blush. Hope you find something nice!

Decent wrap dress with vest under losen & pull down a bit to feed?

justabigdisco · 01/03/2012 23:43

Where can I get a nice wrap dress which is wedding-y enough?

I would go for smart trousers /nice top combo (or skirt if you are feeling more girly). DResses and breastfeeding really don't go weel together. At least with a top you can snuggle into a dark corner to breastfeed and don't have to find an empty room.

Have a fab time.

have done this twice, and just went for a low-cut (ish) empire line dress, and popped my breasts out when i needed to bf! Blush I covered them with a scarf/muslin if i was feeling a bit on-show. No suggestions of actual dresses, though. Sorry...

I went with a dress from Karen Millen that had buttons at the top. Had to drape a scarf over me and DS to avoid huge flashes of boob but it worked fine - he was only 3 weeks so not at the peering-all-round-the-room stage. I couldn't see any breastfeeding dresses I liked.

chickenfeet · 02/03/2012 14:02

I had the same dilemma - went for button-up dress with a little vest underneath, so that I could undo the dress and lift up the top. It's a bit of a faff, but it works without flashing too much.

Maybe the Isabella Oliver wrap dress would be weddingy enough with the right accessories?
I would always say a wrap is the best style as I had one as my wedding dress and managed to BF without undoing or removing anything. Just use a pashmina/patterned scarf as an accessory for coverage.

sobenobu · 02/03/2012 18:16

this one is lovely in pink.

Express milk and leave baby at home?

HappyCamel · 02/03/2012 19:43

I bf in this one www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/phase-eight/Dresses/Camille-Tapework-Dress/201635143

I was about 12.5 stone at the time and found it flattering and got lots of compliments. The fabric is a bit stretchy so I dropped one shoulder and popped a boob out. Phase 8 have lots of lovely dresses that tend to suit the curvier figure.

I went to a wedding in September with a 6 week old in a gorgeous Grecian style v-neck dress from Dorothy Perkins. Anything with a deep v neck would be fine, theres loads about at the minute. And go for jersey cotton - the stretch makes it easier to get the girls out. Use a shawl/stole over it as a cover and off you go.

BF'ing my 7 month old in my bridesmaid dress (a strapless, boned, full length ballgown) next weekend is going interesting....

LittleMissGoodEnough · 02/03/2012 19:54

Wrap top and a skirt

Worked for me!

lisaro · 02/03/2012 19:55

Some nice wrap dresses in phase eight - and stretchy, too, for easy access.

Rainydayagain · 02/03/2012 20:00

Takes me back to a wedding with my 6 week old feeding. I bought a second hand coast dress, strapless so i could pop boob over the top and a stunning silk scarf for covering up.
Leaky boobs were my biggest challenge!!

ViolaCrayola · 02/03/2012 20:07

I wore a skirt/nice top/matching jacket combo at a wedding when DS was 8 weeks old. Worked well.

Caz10 · 02/03/2012 20:18

I did this with 9 wk old dd, I was a bridesmaid and the poor kind fellow bridesmaid wore a matching bf friendly dress even though she has no kids! We went for a very deep v, but it was a crossover top iyswim so I just pulled it to the side. Baby's head covers a lot, I have a cOuple of lovely pics where i know I was feeding but you really can't tell!

gemma4d · 02/03/2012 20:20

I was BF-ing bridesmaid, the bride very nicely changed her bridesmaid-dress-plans so I had a top and skirt version. Much easier!

justabigdisco · 02/03/2012 23:57

Argh hadn't even thought of the leaky boobs/breast pads/giant bra issues... You can tell I haven't had chance to get dressed up yet...
I wish expressing was an option but nobody to have baby and she absolutely WILL NOT take a bottle, but that's a whole other thread!
Some great suggestions here though, thanks all. Smile
